Hello guys,

I am looking for more latest issued papers associated with round brilliant cut diamond's light performance. I have read the fascinating GAA 2013 paper "How Diamond Performance Attributes: Brilliance, Scintillation and Fire Depend on Human Vision Features" and this paper help me a lot on providing all the necessary "technical supports" throughout my diamond selecting process. This is why I don't believe in the existence of "secret sauce." It is all about science. It could be wrong but I really need to see a paper to prove it not rather than some "personal experience.":naughty:

I just got my ring and my overflowing curiosity:wall: now "compels" me to read more diamond papers in my spare time but have no idea where to find them? So please help @Garry H (Cut Nut)

Best,
Octopus

If you are looking for a long and detailed paper that was published in a peer reviewed publication, this one should provide you an hour or two of some heavy reading.

http://www.agslab.com/spie/spie_lo_res.pdf This link was provided in a thread started by John Pollard some years ago. This is a quote from that thread.

Their report “Evaluation of brilliance, fire and scintillation in round brilliant gemstones” appeared in the September issue of Optical Engineering, the monthly journal of SPIE. The journal publishes peer-reviewed papers reporting on research and development in optical science and engineering and the practical applications of known optical science, engineering, and technology.

The thread can be found here.

Hi Octopus, Just saw this. It is more than an hours read. And when we published it we agreed that it may be a decade or more before it becomes 'useful'.
I am not aware of anything published later than this on cut per se.
I have seen presentations on fluorescence that work towards disproving some common blanket misconceptions.

There are patents published on the USPTO website that can be interesting - but most, say from GIA, concern other issues like automating clarity and color grading.
One way to explore is using GooglePatents.
For example you can see who the 'inventors' are in this search and use their individual names.

If you find anything interesting please post it here or in a new thread :)
