Just started looking for an oval for an engagement ring. Not buying until January/February, but am trying to get an idea of what I should be looking for when the time comes. From what I read on here it seems like ovals are best assessed in person but James Allen is good with the videos. I'm

My budget will be $6000. Cut and size matter most. She either wants a halo or a large stone in a solitaire (I'm not sure if the difference in price of settings really will allow a much bigger stone, so halo is probably the way to go. She likes the falling edge pave from JA, for reference. Custom isn't in the budget right now unfortunately). She also prefers rose gold.

Other than that ... I'm clueless. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, looking to learn as much as possible so the decision is easy when the time Comes.

Does your $6000 include the setting? If so, you are looking at an oval that is sub-1 carat (~7x5 mm).

If you are not buying until Jan/Feb any stones we find now will be gone. So, I'd just read along with all the posts that arise about ovals (and there will be many). Know it may take a while to find a good oval. You may need to request images on 3 or 15 diamonds to get a good one. So, just be prepared for a longer road.

If you want a surer route, you can contact @Rhino about his new super-ideal oval (first in the world).

Ok, I will look into good old gold then. Thank you everyone. Good to know about this super ideal oval, I didn't know that existed

Jonathan is solo, now; no longer with GOG. Click on the IG link, above to find him...

Jonathan is doing amazing things with his ovals!

This article opened up a whole new load of info for me*. It was fascinating, and it gave me new perspective on Ovals, and how complex this cut really is. This is a great resource!

Agreed. One of the most comprehensive and educational articles on ovals out there.
