Looking for advice with small off sized diamond studs

I am looking to get my wife a new pair of diamond studs for Christmas to replace the very small ones she currently wears daily (~0.10 tcw). We went into a local jewelry store and tried some on and settled on 0.40 tcw which I did not buy as the diamonds were a bit hazy. The 0.33's were slightly too small and the 0.50's were slightly too big for her ears. It seems that most vendors do not stock that size, and the only one I did find from IDJewelry do not list much in the way of diamond quality. I looked at pricescope a lot when I purchased her engagement ring which made me a bit paranoid about focusing on high quality stones.

Do I really need to be concerned with the quality at this small size?

I would like to stick to a budget of $750 total and the earrings must be white gold with screw backs (another hard thing to find in this size) which is her preference as these will stay in her ears 24/7. Color should be I or better as her engagement ring is an H.

Thank you all for your help!

I am not sure if you can stay in your budget but I would get some studs from either Whitefish or Brian Gavin or High Performance diamonds. I bought my daughter some .25 studs one year from Brian Gavin when he was still at Whiteflash, and those little babies are balls of fire. Even in a small size, cut matters when they are in the ears.

Or I'd get in touch with David Klass and see what he can do for you. I know his prices are very reasonable for creating settings (I've never had him source stones for me but I know he's fully capable).

Same with IDJ. IDJ can source and make you something that isn't on their site.

Whiteflash and High Performance Diamonds start at 0.30 ct/diamond so they are too big. I did see Brian Gavin but they are a bit out of my budget.

What about something like this:

Right now it's out of budget but I think they have really good sales for Black Friday. Not sure if that applies to studs but they are one of the only sites that actually discounts diamonds.

I'll have to keep an eye on the black friday sales. If it gets discounted a bit more or without having to buy another piece of jewelry I can probably stretch my budget a bit more.

I didn't think that at this low of a price it would be reasonable to get something "custom".

I did see B2CJewels has some diamonds in the size and price range with a screw back setting. Would running pairs through the HCA be a good idea to find a decent pair?

Try IDJ!

The ones you linked to from IDJ has the option for screw backs and says F-G SI1 and the perfect carat weight that she wants. Honestly, I don't think that's a bad choice to go with. With BGD I think you can trade them in later on and upgrade though, so that might be something to consider (plus Black Friday sales).

I'd email IDJ and see what they can do. Make sure you ask for PS quality diamonds. For my ears, I don't need ACAs.

So it seems like the consensus is to either get some ACA studs from Brian Gavin or talk with IDJ and get some higher quality PS diamonds versus what they typically put in their standard studs.

Do I need to do any additional research on Brian Gavin's Signature Diamonds or can I trust that all of them are well cut? What should I look for if I go talk with IDJ?

With price being a big factor I would absolutely email IDJ, they will find something in your budget and put it in the screw back setting you want. I wear my .50 TCW studs all the time too, and they don’t have screwbacks, just a martini setting and they don’t budge. I found screw backs to be very uncomfortable and unnecessary in a smaller stone. That said, if she has them already she won’t mind he bigger post like I did!
