Hello fellow PriceScopers! I have just signed up and the volume of valuable information here is amazing.

I am looking to purchase a larger 3-3.5 ct, VVS1-VS1, H or I, Ideal cut stone and was hoping to get some advice from the knowledgeable folks here. What should my strategy be to maximize the bang for the buck?

I have already browsed through the main sites such as BN, JA, GoG, WF, etc. Are there any other sites that might also list secondary market stones (or rings) that I should consider?

I am in NYC area, any retailers that you might recommend that would have a decent selection to look at given my parameters?

Thank you so much in advance!

Maximize your bang for the buck by going with lower clarity. One clarity grade in this size can mean thousands of dollars.

Hi NYC guy! Are you on Long Island? My favorite jeweler in in Garden City.. Gross Jewelers. I think they are one of the sponsers of this site as well.. since1910.com
I have bought many of my best pieces from them.. the owner Michael Gross is very fair and always produces GREAT things. You tell him what you want and he will find it for you. I bought my large emerald cut engagement ring from him and 10 years later I'm still admiring it.
Good luck!!

Your budget and size, color, and clarity parameters may not all work. You'll have to compromise on something!

But I recommend Good Old Gold on Long Island as they have an outstanding reputation and hundreds of recommendations on this forum! You have to call them and tell them what you want, and they can pick up some stones for you to look at. Almost no one carries many stones that size in house.

This is pretty amazing, but they have an outstanding stone right now listed at about $60k, 3.3 cts, H VS2:

Ok.................................2 of them are XXX and I wasn't comparing them to anything else. The stone DS provided was long after I posted these......Plus that stone is 3k over the top of his budget.

i have two diamond dealers in the city. I can give you their names but I think that GOG is yor best bet. Before I bought my 2.41 studs this February I went to see these two dealers and frankly I would have bought them from GOG or one of the eretailers but i had to trade in old studs and sell gold first.

if I had all cash or credit cards I would use the on line retailers. That being said here are my two references for you

Harvey Nagin owns the building at 66 west 47th street 212-719-2185.... http://www.naginjewelryco.com/

Stewart Klein Northeastern Diamond he is wholesaler private diamond buyer and seller.10 west 46th you need to email him as he is private [email protected] http://ne-diamond.com/ne/Contact/

Thanks for the contacts heididdl!

I will definitely consider...your recommendation of Whiteflash and GOG, is that based on pricing or service? In your experience, did you find online e-retailers more price competitive than diamond district dealers?

As other posters have said, it will be tough to find your specs in that price range. You can get a ton of bang for your buck if you go with a lower clarity. I just purchased a 3.25 ct color I SI1, triple x for slightly under your budget. It is eyeclean which is what mattered to me. In the size you want, the difference between and H and an I will be at least $5K - $10K more (estimate) and also going from an SI1 to VS clarity will add the same amount. You have a good budget so you should be able to get a VERY decent diamond...just depends what is important to you. I would pay for color before clarity (as long as eye clean), but that is my personal preference. Don't give on cut though!

Since you live in NY, you could also check out Engagement Rings Direct. They are primarily an on-line dealer based in the diamond district but they take appointments for viewing diamonds. They don't provide the same images/tests that JA and GOG do on-line, but viewing a diamond in person can be the best way to pick a diamond. Just another option to consider...

Good luck!

What do you guys think of this stone? Even if its a grade or two lower in clarity and color on AGS or GIA scale, still seems reasonable, no?

EGL Int - run!

Loose on colour and clarity grading, measurements are rounded to nearest 1% which makes them at best misleadingly imprecise if trying to determine details on nuances of performance.
