Is it too dated? It’s my size!

I may move on it quickly

If you love it, go crazy.

Before you do though - check the seller's feedback on toolhaus.org. The box looks a bit off to me, but it may just be the age (I'm guessing this is from the 80s?)

I think I need to try and separate my love for the brand and my love for the piece :/

Yes, from the 80’s. I wish Cartier would authenticate because it sounds like it’s very hard for the average joe to do!

I think Yssie's around, she's great with branded pieces and Diamondseeker too.

What's the return policy like from the seller?

I have had that one on my watch list for a while - something about the setting is really appealing to me. If you get it, post a million photos!

Every Cartier box I've seen has a stamp on the inside lid of the box and on the underside of the box. Newer ones say "Cartier" in script. Older ones had more of a medallion (see below). The whole advertising point was to see the ring and see it was a "Cartier" ring. The fabric interior color and finish look more like it is much earlier given its color, sheen and billowy look. In any case, Cartier box or not, I don't think it was the original box for that ring. A picture of the inside of the lid would be helpful.

On the ring, they never clearly show the stamps on the inside. Without clear marks, its difficult to authenticate. I'd ask for a clear photo or photos showing the stamps in focus.

It's so cheap, there's little risk. It's tempting because of the price, but I wouldn't really buy it otherwise because I don't think I actually love the ring itself.

I agree with checking out the seller, and there should be markings inside the ring. Do they show that?

Good gosh that bow tie in the stone is reeeeeaaaaalllllyyyyyy noticeable.

I’d be wanting more close ups of the stone and box to try and be a bit more certain about its actual provenance as a Cartier ring.

Great advice from everyone! Thank you so much! I will talk to the seller and sleep on it.

That's what I was thinking at that price, so, what's the plan Pearaffair??

After a lot of soul searching, I decided that I just don’t like yellow gold on me! I love that Cartier ring, but I think it just wouldn’t suit me. The seller was SO nice, and put up with all of my questions and provided extra photos of the box and the ring, and she is open to offers because it’s her mom’s old ring she’s using the money for grad school. So if you like the ring and you look better in yellow gold than I do, definitely talk to the seller :)

I’m just so pink!!! Lol

I think the yellow gold looks nice on you. Your skin appears to be my color and I wear gold a lot.

Blast....I was hoping you'd get it but go with what you think's best.:))

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! But thanks :)

Are you blonde? People my skin tone that are blonde - I like that look. I’m a brunette :P

Lol, funny you should ask. My 23 and me genetics test says I'm a blonde. I consider myself to have light brown hair. I used to do highlights and people called me a blonde, but I prefer natural these days.

Glad you skipped this one @pearaffair. I can’t speak to authenticity of the ring but to my eyes the box is a mess. I remember talking about some of these issues with my SA a few years ago.

Sharp-cornered box shape, embossed stripes instead of lace swags and dotted ribbon line... look fishy to me, but I suppose they could be explained. I suppose the poor wrapping of the interior corners could be a sign of the box unravelling as it ages, and the lack of clear snakeskin patterning due to wear. The black insert could be a replacement for the original. IMO what has no explanation whatsoever, however, is the lack of bow/knot pattern. Over the years Cartier has changed the pattern of knots and open and closed circles, the spacing... but AFAIK never in their history have they produced a box that featured an inconsistent pattern of knots and bows like this box:

Good point! Worth noting! Thanks for your $0.02!

Such an interesting ring! I love the style of the setting. Was the listing an auction format before, @pearaffair? Because the seller appears to have doubled their asking price now

I noticed that too.

She had “make offer” before, and then I wanted to offer $850, and so she made a new listing for me because I was trying to figure it all out, and then I told her I wasn’t buying it after all because I changed my mind, so then she took it down and reposted at her original asking price. “Make offer” should still be an option though! I bet she would still consider $850... but of course she is trying to get higher offers :)
