Hey everyone,
The time has finally come to buy an engagement ring! The only problem is that I don't know where to start really. Thankfully I happened upon Pricescope. I figured I will get a diamond first then work on the setting. She has been really good at giving me some things she wants. Can you all help me find a diamond? Any help would be amazing!

Diamond
Natural -No heat/ enhancement treatment (is that realistic?)
Certified
open to pear, oval, or round. I like pear the best.
>6.5mm wide (willing to go a smaller if price is right and still looks nice)
Cut: Good or better
Color: I or better
Carat: .75 - 1.5 (again, price is limiting factor honestly)
Clarity: VS1/VS2 or better

Id like to spend around 4K but after looking I can see that might not be possible. 6K would be my absolute most.

Also if you know of any padparadscha that might fit the same I know she's mentioned those once or twice.

I really appreciate the help!

Somebody more knowledgeable will come along in a moment to help you
Just a few points -
The teardrop is called a pear shape
It’s absolutely realistic to go for a natural diamond - however heat treating is usually used more in reference to a coloured stone and padparascha is a sapphire - which to the best of my knowledge if genuinely padparascha will cost you an arm and a leg.
I think with a pear usually a colour above I is recommended as they concentrate colour towards the tip.
Is your budget for the stone and the setting or diamond only? What setting are you thinking of?

Thanks for the tip! I changed it to pear.
Yea I was looking at some padparadschas and i'm just not willing to spend that type of money without actually seeing it in hand.
I'm willing to spend 6K on the diamond itself but would rather not lol diamond and setting I would top out at 7K.
For the setting I was thinking about something like the picture attached. Maybe if I get a smaller diamond I can get a halo around it?

Relative to the setting, has she picked this kind of setting (plus or minus a halo)? That is a LOT of look and not everyone's choice. It can be adored, but some find that kind of shank hard to match with a wedding band.

Edited to add...what is HER favorite shape? Pear, oval or round?

I was thinking about that setting only because she mentioned that type. I didn't think about how that would match a setting. I will stick with the single and but still with diamonds in-bedded.
Her favorite is all three cuts.

I'll post a few to so you can see how much you can get for $6kish.

and which are twining wisp)
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.08-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-sku-3731979 couldnt find what I thought was a really great larger oval
in your budget...this next one looks pretty but on the smaller side

I just wanted to say congrats and how exciting. You’ll be well advised by the experienced PS diamond gurus here. I’m not one of them though. :roll

That's really great! Honestly the third one is my favorite. Doesn't seem like it would over power her hand. She has tiny hands. Maybe a size 3.5. Do you think 1ct is to big for someone with a 3.5?

I think it will be lovely :) just right!

I love my pear shape! Happy shopping.

Denver_sky ...about a carat would look lovely on a 3.5 finger (not too big but not too small either).

Rocky...isnt that last picture a 1.23 on a 3.5 finger? Here is another picture of the 1.23 above a bit farther away.

Yes. Mistype. Size 3.5 totally correct.

Wow! That looks fantastic! I’ll for sure stick with 1ct. Thanks for the picture. I really appreciate it.

Oooh how exciting! Congrats! I think that there are some really great options for your budget! I'm no expert in anything but having looked at enough pears in the past two months or so, i think that I can spot some decent ones. But if anyone sees flaws in my choices please do let meknow (do not want to be leading someone down the wrong road!)

I had a few flagged for comparison reasons, but which were wayyy outside my price point just to give you a starting point:

The two below are just ones I liked from a ps search not too long ago.

But I would say that I like a very specific shape for pears. I want little round bottomed nuggets so it's always good to see what your SO likes as well. It is also true that with all fancy shapes you'll have a hard time working out it's performance without seeing it in person.

Hi Denver_Sky,
Congratulations on the upcoming engagement. You're already getting great advice!

Just wondering, did your FI (future intended) show you any photos of the setting she wants?

The photo you have attached is called a split shank - where the band (or shank) of the ring splits into two. Split shank rings come in a wide range of designs and can be a good choice for a pear center diamond as it helps to balance the elongated shape. Also, they can be as plain or as blingy as you like. It may be fine as is, or if you can, you might check with your FI because as rockysalamander pointed - it's a distinctive look.

So, you have a lot of choices in a range of shapes. What direction do you want to go in?

I personally love split shanks but you need a honker in the middle to get the look of your inspo pic.

You could do a single shank with pave or a solitaire with just metal. Luckily she has small fingers so 1 carat will look nice;)2
