Hello, all! I have been browsing PriceScope for several weeks now and have been so impressed by all the knowledge everyone here seems to possess about diamonds.
I am preparing to propose to my girlfriend and have been looking around for a pear-shaped diamond. My maximum total budget, including the setting, is about $25K - I'd really like to keep it all under $20K, if possible. Thus, I've been looking for stones in the range of ~$18K, with a bit of flexibility.
I'm valuing cut first and foremost, as I think my girlfriend is most impressed by diamonds that really sparkle. Size-wise, I'm looking for 2+ carats, and basically as large as my budget allows. (My girlfriend often remarks on how big her family's and friends' diamonds are...) Ideally, I'd like to keep the color at G or better; when we were looking at engagement rings together in B&M stores, I think she felt the H/I stones were a bit warm for her taste. For clarity, my only real requirement is that there aren't any inclusions sufficiently obvious so as to irk me whenever I look at her ring. I also know that my girlfriend prefers pears with a smaller length/width ratio - I showed her a picture of 1.5, 1.66, and 1.75, and she said she felt the 1.75 was too skinny. She might also be interested in stones with a ratio of less than 1.5; I'm not sure.
In the time that I've been looking, I've glanced at the inventories of all the PriceScope featured sponsors, but, other than limiting my results to those that fall within the range of the specifications given at the PriceScope Pear Cut Diamond page, I'm not sure what my next step should be, as there seem to be many options available. Are there certain vendors that are preferred for pears, and/or does anyone have recommendations of specific stones that match my desired characteristics? I'm also happy to patronize a B&M store in the SF bay area. I've already been to a few, but only one followed up on my request to see some pears. He brought in a stone that I'm convinced is the same one listed here, because the lab, weight, color, clarity, table, depth, length, and width are all exactly the same (although the price he quoted me was several thousand dollars more!).
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer!
