Yay I have my camera USB! Here are my long-promised pictures of my new tourmaline, along with pictures of:

1) My rings made since joining PS
2) Opal ring that my mom gave me to reset
3) An alexandrite owned by my mom''s friend, that I''m setting into a ring for her
4) All my loose stones!

Enjoy and sorry for the picture overload!

First, the new tourmaline - it GLOWS. It''s seriously the easiest stone to photograph - soooo pretty!

In daylight - it looked so pretty outside in the snow, but it was way too cold to stay out there for more than 5 minutes!

Yay! I absolutely love this stone! Ok, back to pics...

Indoors, with its friends again - another tourmaline, a sapphire and a morganite

Oh no! I''m out for the moment (mostly because I need to get some sleep so I can get up in 6 hours and go to class

). But you can do it!! Of course, if you want to procrastinate, you can help me figure out how to set that opal!

Thanks Akmiss! I was definitely definitely lucky - right now, it''s my favorite stone, and it would take some doing for it to be displaced! Jeff absolutely outdid himself on it!

Its gorgeous BEG !
Seriously pretty, looks lik its glowing from inside. love it!

Do you mind if I ask - in your experience, is JW''s gems any more expensive than other cutters such as Dan, Gene etc?
I''m always admiring his site, but with no prices I''m guessing their outta my purses'' league at the moment, lol

I felt invited to butt into this one

First off, are you absolutely sure you want to set that opal into another ring or are you open to other ideas? I''m asking cause they''re best suited for setting into things like pendants or brooches (or brooch pendants
2.gif
), cause they''re not among the most durable of stones. And especially cause it was a gift from mom, I''m sure you wouldn''t like to damage it. Think about it.

As for the design, I''d choose metal color based on the colors that show up most often inside the stone (in it''s play of color). If they''re mostly blues and greens I''d go for white gold, if there are some yellows and reds, I''d go for yellow setting. I''d keep the setting to a minimum, wether it''s a bezel or prong, and add maybe just a few diamond melees for accents. With opaque stones it''s important not to overdo it with diamond accents so that they don''t outshine the center stone. With a larger bail you can wear it on a strand of pearls just like on regular chains, which would make (IMO) and interesting combination.

I actually really like the current setting of the opal - may we see another pic, profile BEG?
thankyou

That tourmaline is gorgeous
