I took my rings into Jareds today to have a new head put on as well as have them re-soldered. The local jeweler that I previously took them to was really slow and did a horrible, I mean HORRIBLE job. I''m taking several trips in the next month and then my husband will be home, so I didnt want to take any more chances with the local jeweler and wanted it set right away.
Anyway, as I was checking in my ring at the repair desk, the clerk was filling out the forms and asked me for the estimated value of the ring. I told her what they appraised for. She then told me that she would need a manager to look at it, plot it and give an estimated value. So the manager comes over, looks at the rings, asks if I bought the stone there and then asked if I bought the setting there. She then asked me where I bought them and I told her from two different vendors in NYC.
She then took the rings over to a microscope to look them over. As she was walking, she kept saying what a beautiful diamond I have and how the setting was outstanding - that she could tell they were really high quality. I said, "Well I''m sure you''d be shocked if you knew how much I paid for them." She said, "Oh really?!" and went on to look at them under the scope, all the while commenting to me and the clerk what amazing diamonds I have (mind you, my center is a J).
Anyway, after she finished examing all the diamonds, she turns to me and says, "Soooo, how much did you pay for this???". When I told her, her face dropped like she was shocked and she said, "OMG, how in the world did you ever get that kind of price for this diamond and this setting? You know that this would easily run you x dollars here." the she looked around and realized there was another customer and sales associate looking at us with interest, so she says, "Oh, never mind". After we got back over to the repair desk, she wanted to know the details. Then she told me that obviously I had done my homework and she was very impressed.
Needless to say, I left there feeling kinda happy about my new bling!!!
