Little Luxuries

Spa services: hair professionally colored every 3-4 weeks, manicure & pedicure twice a month, expensive shampoo & conditioner. I try different facial treatments at the medi-spa. An occasional massage.
Good cuts of meat, fresh fruits & veggies. Fresh flowers all year round. Really want a cleaning service again, hope to have by the holidays. We also go out for dinner 3 times a month or so. Lots of staycation outings as well.

Fine European shoes (they must not have heels, I must be able to walk all day in comfort), Organic food, spendy meals in vegetarian restaurants, Aubrey Organics shampoos, conditioners & skin creams.

How I am not like most women: I spend nothing on my nails and hair (except for washing it). Though I am a feminine woman, I am like a guy this way - my nails grow like weeds and I just hack them short with scissors. I don't buy perfume, and have little interest in clothing. Jewelry and shoes are another story, though!

Mine's not little, but wasn't huge either. I don't spend money on little luxuries, so I felt I could splurge this year on new and final dishes. And thanks to Gypsy's recommendations, I am in LOVE with my plain white Wedgwood bone china dishes. I only bought the dinner and salad plates, but they are a dream to use everyday. For the rest of my all white service I picked up all kinds of very inexpensive white bone china bowls, bread and butter plates, etc. It all goes together, but only the Wedgwood was expensive-ish. The other pieces I found mostly on sale and at places like TJ Maxx. It looks so serene in the cupboard too. I have glass doors, it looks great.

Little luxuries for me are race registration fees for fun stuff like triathlon sprints and obstacle races..I spend a decent amount on a gym, and on training clothing/shoes/gear, little bits here and there. I think I'm actually good about it, considering gear like a tri bike with race wheels or a decent wetsuit can get up there and I try to keep it under control..but it's not cheap, and it's certainly a luxury. I also tend to treat my kids to every decent kids movie that comes out..at the movies.

I get my hair cut and foiled every couple of months, and I get a manicure every few weeks. Oh, and every once in a great while I'll get a spray tan.

Massages, but only a few times a year.

Godiva chocolate. Specifically, their open oysters. Mmmmm :lickout:

I'm so happy it gives you so much joy lyra. I feel the same way about mine. Not little at first, but considering the daily use... not huge either.

Eyebrow threading every 2 weeks
Kindle books when I'm too impatient to wait for the library copy
Gel manicures and pedicures instead of the regular kind (I only do this once in awhile, though!)

Other than eating out probably more than we should, I can't think of anything that I'd consider luxurious right now. I would have counted our cleaning lady but we had to let her go, sadly. We used to treat ourselves to a weekend trip to the city to see a show, a concert, or just to explore, but we haven't done that in a very long time. I miss it.

Starbucks a few times a week.

I splurge on a multitude of good teas/tisanes. I love to drink hot tea.

Books. I think one can never have enough books.

a cute dress now and then. I had one dress that I could wear at non black tie occasions until this year. Now I have 5, thanks to a doting grandmother and a few side jobs.

Great topic! Makes me realize most of my 'splurges' are food/drink related. Besides buying organic/healthy, I love to pair a good wine with my meals. I'm giddy over my new All Clad frying pan - it would have cost $250 elsewhere, I picked it up for $50! Good knives - nothing makes cooking a chore more than cheap/dull knives. A cocktail with friends at the neighborhood hang out. Good shoes - if I don't wear supportive, flat shoes my feet cripple me. I do like designer clothes, but buy at sales. And, of course, sparklies!

Fluevog shoes - it used to be Via Spiga, but then they changed foot models. :(( Life is too short to not have perfectly comfortable footwear.

Tumi bags for travel: they're light and durable, and I like not having to worry about my shoulders or my things when I'm abroad.

Taxis to and from the airport.

Decent nail polishes - since I always do my own, I might as well get the most durable materials!

I used to splurge on fancy teas and things, but I've stopped ... honestly, I like the pomegranate and green tea from the grocery store just as much as the fancy kind from Palace de The or Kusmi! A friend recently advanced the notion that I might have fewer taste receptors than the average bear: the opposite of a supertaster, or maybe the gustatory equivalent of being color-blind. That could very well be true, since I like everything spicy! But it doesn't stop me from splurging on takeout ... less because of flavor (though, so long as it's spicy, that is awesome!) and more because, with a toddler ... by the time dinner rolls around, I am TIRED.

A monthly-to-bimonthly visit to the local flea market: it's fun to browse, all the folks there love my kiddo, and though I probably spend $50 each time I go, it amortizes nicely when you consider things like the heavy silk lined curtains I got there ... comparable ones cost stupid money, but I got mine for - you guessed it! - $50.

Semi-decent vodka and Calvados to keep on hand: good for unexpected guests, great for winding down in a bath.

BATH FOAMS. Thank you, Laduree and Sabon!

... I'm a bit of a hedonistic sybarite, at the end of the day, aren't I. :lickout: But being a big cheap-skate on everything else ... I figure the rest pays for itself!

^ Tumi bags - the cat's meow! Spendy as all get-out but I lucked out at TJMaxx - slashed clearance price on black suitcase :appl:

Well, I don't think it's a luxury per se, but I always get Diet Coke from McDonald's. It's much cheaper to buy a 24 pack of cans, but McDonald's Coke and Diet Coke is so much better! Most of the little things I treat myself to is food stuff: gourmet candies, fancy beverages, coffees, etc.

This is so true. NOTHING beats McDonald's Coke. :lickout:

My fave little luxury lately is probably Lush shampoo and conditioner. $30/bottle but it lasts a long time and I love the smell.

Jeni's ice cream!!! I miss it out here in the country. It's handmade artisan ice creams, a lot of interesting flavors. In the shops I think it's up to 4 or 5 bucks for a few scoops (I usually get the 4 scoop set which is I think $7 now) and a pint is $10 in grocery stores. Been trying to make my own though now that I have an ice cream machine.

Nail polish...I only have one bottle of expensive ($25) nail polish and it's a Chanel but I counted that as a birthday present a few years back ;)) I do have a ridiculously enormous collection though that I still have yet to completely move out of my parents', including the 2 shelves that store them.

That's really it so far...I'm sure I will come up with more along the years :halo:

I LOVE Talenti gelato! I don't even really like ice cream, but I tried the salted caramel and almost fainted it was so unbelievably delicious!

I love La Mer eye concentrate, but that feels like a huge luxury since it has gone up in price a bit. I love handbags, just bought 3! I am still not sure if I am going to keep two of them. DH is a little overwhelmed at the total cost.

I love crafty things that someone else makes. I stopped in a gallery in SLO called hands and discovered a company called Sticks. I purchased a lazy susan that is hand painted.

I love kindle books. I treat myself often. Going out to lunch. Nothing expensive.

Fabric and quilt patterns. Quilt shows. I don't really go to see the quilts as much as to shop. I love finding a new tool.

I love having someone else paint my toes. I don't really enjoy the pedicure process, but my toes look so much better than when I paint them.

Trying new hair products. I am always looking for the holy grail of hair care. The one thing that will make my locks look fabulous. My daughter gives me her card so I can shop wholesale. Can't beat that.

Oh dear ... I love all of this stuff.

My Nespresso machine. It makes awesome lattes that are so much better (and cheaper) than Starbucks.

Hair extensions. I have crappy, fine hair so I splurge on extensions and color.

Good skin care. I've been using SK-II, but may look at La Mer again...

Good quality, locally raised food. We have a local grocery and their prices are as good or better than the chain stores and the quality is so much better.

Trader Joe dark chocolate sea salt bar. Put it in the freezer and wow. So so good! I have been buying all the Olay Regenerist products- finding very good results for less than the department store. Taking time for Zumba and yoga. Time is a luxury, right?

A gym membership to the tune of 180 bucks a month (if I don't love the gym, I won't go at all) and two stupidly expense side-by-side (one next to a wall) reserved parking spots in my garge.

For us, it's champagne/sparkling wine. We much prefer, and regularly treat ourselves to, $80-$100 bottles. The less expensive stuff ($30 or less) just isn't the same.

Like many PSers, organic foods only. I still consider it a luxury. Monthly pedicures during summer and gel manicures in winter. Ill only do one or the other. ;). Martial arts for the kids, so crazy expensive!! Private lessons and weapons lessons. Weekend getaways 3-4 times a year for marathons. Running gear, lululemon workout clothes, race registration fees, expo purchases. I've done weekends in Philly, Ojai, San Diego. Gonna do DC in October. Hopefully Boston next year. But my running days are numbered. My body will not be able to take the abuse much longer so I will do it while I am healthy enough. I am guessing another 2-3 years max.
