Light leakage. What to do

I bought a 5.5 carat radiant diamond from Yadav. Bank wired this morning. Now this is what they say. I have some news for you. We've been communicating with the supplier about the 5.51 Radiant and based on the image and video, this diamond has some light leakage despite it having all the ideal proportions stated on the IGI certificate. I have outlined it here: The good part is that we can have this diamond re-cut so that the facets are more defined and there will be maximum sparkle and fire. I guarantee you will love it so much more! The recut will lower the carat weight to about 5.2 cts so it will still be a massive diamond. It will take about 2-3 weeks to deliver so I'm not sure if the timing will work for you. We will still offer you a 30 day return if you are not satisfied. And I will be able to give you a little more discount for the inconvenience and the delayed delivery. We can discuss more in detail but I first wanted to share the news. I don’t know if removing .3 ct. During a recut would completely solve the problem....would need one of our trade pros to chime in.

If it would solve the issue and you’d be getting a reasonable discount then it might be a great solution. I definitely wouldn’t want the stone as-is with the leakage being substantial enough that it’s being mentioned this way by the vendor.

I would also want a gia report.
An igi report on a 5ct+ stone is a huge red flag.
It needs a new report anyway because it has been modified.
That is my opinion.

I don’t see a problem if you retain the option of not purchasing the diamond after recutting.
Diamonds are “sold” on carat weight so you’d be wanting a discount commensurate with the loss of carat weight.
And if the minor recut only loses .30 carat, and from the underside I presume, it won’t be noticeable though an improvement in light dispersion is definitely noticable.
