Hi psers

So I've ordered some carnelian beads (but not your average looking ones). These look yummy and translucent, a deep red.

Reported to be natural carnelian (not dyed agate but I'll see once I have them on me..) only heat treated.

They were not very cheap nor expensive, happy with the price.

Please show me your carnelians if you have any, or any exampls of great looking ones. I've been searching for over a year now and normally they look 'dead'; these beads do not.

Of course pics once I have them :geek2:

Thank you for sharing chatoy they are beautiful. I love your bracelet especially!

I own some really bright orange carnelian, rather than the darker redder material which is somewhere (no clue where) in the house - haven't seen it in years. If I find it I'll take pics of it.

Haha ark yes please do! Who knows once you dig it out, you might even be tempted to wear it again?! :mrgreen2:

_35778.jpg_35779.jpg In Italy or Greece in the late 50s my birth father bought this ring on a family vacation. He was wearing it when he died in 1965 (while I was inutero). It sat in a drawer in his sister's house in the envelope as given to them by the coroner - until after I found them in 2003, she said it belonged with me. I've treasured it since.

Thank you! I bought the bracelet with summer some of my summer job (three jobs) money between two years in college. My parents were so mad because they wanted me to work solely to pay for rent the folllowing college year.

Beautiful ring and even more beautiful story! The carnelian has held up wonderfully throughout the years. You must get such joy when you wear this ring, knowing it was your dear fathers :))

My father passed away some months ago now, almost coming up to a year.. he used to wear a big signet ring with a stone but he lost it many years ago. Sometimes I wish I could have that ring in my possession...

I found this carnelian apple at a yard sale. It is half drilled.
Today I decided to give it a new life by making a sterling pendant.

Wow love that apple! Cute details on the leaves! Is that silver?

Thanks! Yes, sterling silver. Silver is sooooo much easier to work with than gold. It is pliable and easy to manipulate, so stamping details on the leaves was easy. Then once fired, it becomes hard again.
And you can get a super high polish on it!

Sorry, Daisy, I know this isn't what you asked, but I just couldn't help myself. It's low quality carnelian, of course, but looking at all the pretties here, now I'm feeling a craving...

Sigh, just love that almost translucent carnelian...

Thanks for reviving this old thread, Daisys. I love carnelian! Here's a carnelian necklace of mine, a 1920s-30s choker with a Chinese carved carnelian clasp.
