This one is the upgraded solitaire engagement ring above my original wedding set I really love my original set, my husband had to pretty much tackle me to get me to even CONSIDER an upgrade. It was all over the moment I set eyes on an ideal cut diamond, LOL!
And here is how I am currently wearing the set until my new custom ring is ready! Really, I could wear it like this forever, but DH insists that we have the new setting made - he wants something with sapphires (not that I am complaining!). I really can''t believe the difference between the "mall" diamonds and an AGS 000 that is eye clean. Pricescope has turned me into a diamond fanatic!
I don't have any of the other specs on the ring, but it's an G/SI1. It's antique so it's other specs would be a bit off anyway Sometimes I think I can find spots, but then I can never find the same one again so either it's dirty (which is more than likely) or I'm starting to see things from studying it so closely cross-eyed.
I can't get the photos to work, will try again later.
my H/SI1 .71 emerald cut is awesome, and I search all the time for the same cut (VG, with VG symmetry) and the only ones we have found cost at least 30% to 50% more than what we paid for this one from BN. It's awesome. 6.5mm by 4.77, I think? Has a feather, but what you see in the slightly upper left is not it. That's the refection of the feather. When the ring is face up, the feather, through a loupe, is in line with the band of the ring. And ya have to HUNT for it, tilt it just right.
Everyone thinks it's more than a carat, for an emerald cut under a carat, it's pretty remarkable. My carat weight had to drop below a carat when we decided on a platinum setting, but we kept a good bit of the size and beauty by carefully choosing our ratio and depth, plus, most important of all-- opting for an SI1 that is definitely eye-clean, and choosing an H. I think we could have gone even I or J in color, but since it's in platinum, I kept it at H.
I search online (and have checked local shops )diamonds constantly, even colors from I-K and have found nothing in this price range. I search just to feel that lovely "justified" feeling that we really picked a pretty diamond.
I think I've read it here... better to sacrifice in Clarity rather than Cut, if you must give on one of them. A lower clarity with an Excellent or VG cut beats a Fair cut with higher clarity, in my book, anyway.
I know that's WAY blown up, but it's so much better than that, so fiery, and clean, and shoots rainbows even in a dark room, from the tv screen. Cut is SO important.
and there is my inclusion/feather -- blown up, what... 50x? It fit the current budget nicely and still is beautiful at actual size. I may add side stones one day, and add a diamond band on the other side of my wedding band, but I''ll always keep this diamond in some capacity, it''s so pretty and special.
go for the SI, but get the better cuts!
