what are we up to ....?
The stone will lose saturation under low light and shift color abit to orange, its more obvious on the pink one and not so much for the redder one.Oh wow, that is so neon! This is a bit random, but I find it interesting how a lot of the spinels in images/videos from vendors look like they have no facets when taken in sunlight. It's just like one mass of neon. I appreciate being able to see the facets in yours (does that sound weird?)
If your able to, can you please share some pictures of your spinels in low light conditions? Does the colour remain neon pink?
The larger one is reddish pink and smaller one is pinkish red. To me the larger one is predominately pink with only a dash of red while smaller one is vice versa. The smaller one looks better under normal lighting due to deep color saturation, but get outshined by the bigger one under sunlight. They look quite consistent in different lightings to me! I love the reddish one! Was it graded reddish pink?
Yea the color of the smaller stone is amazing but its quite included. However I have been thinking maybe the inclusions somehow help enhance its colour. That smaller one is stunning
what are we up to ....?
Let's start at the top... RED is up!! Who has some ruby, garnet, tourmaline, spinel, coral, or beryl to share? Carnelian and sunstone count too. Did you guys know there is natural red topaz? Verrry rare! Oh and black opal with a red flash is also definitely welcome.
I'll take the coveted red spot.
Some pages back @Nick_G posted his 'Star of David' twinned spinel.
It took months - maybe close to a year - of pestering every rare stone dealer/Burmese seller/spinel dealer/Burma-material-selling dealer I could find from around the globe. Then I finally found a seller, who I think quite reluctantly, was willing to sell his. And only because he had a larger one!
I did come across quite a few lower quality ones (broken, opqaue, imperfect, really tiny) and I am glad I held out for this one.
It is as perfect a star as you can expect. Nature is just amazing. I love the texture/surface features. 4.5mm. I didn't get weight but I assume 0.15-0.25ct. I need to buy a scale that is good enough quality but not too expensive.
Sorry, I know some people don't like an Imgur link. Here is a more realistic distance shot, a shot through a loupe and a video showing the surface features:
Oh... woooooow. It literally looks carved, but I don't think anyone but mother nature could create such a perfect shape. Big congrats on finally finding your dream star!!
Thank you! Honestly, its my 'realistic' dream star. My dream star is this published piece:
And yes, in my search I asked Vincent Pardieu if he still has it (he does!) and I was cheeky enough to ask if he would sell it - of course I got a noHe told me it is 1.2ct! thats probably 7+mm face up with the thinness. Ugh.

This was the second best I found after mine btw - around 3mm (in terms of completeness and general attractiveness).
Here's one that was very clean/relatively big but too incomplete or lacking the 'star' look.
Here are some matrix specimens! Really wanted the bottom one but could not justify the price for the minuscule size of the spinel - I think 2mm.

This stone is GOALS!
Spinel, right? What origin?
Yes.

I think my example was a lucky fluke. It's not as perfect as @toomuchB 's example further up, but bizarrely the blurb just said '7.65 ct twinned spinel', with no mention of the fact it was a 'Star of David' style twin. I'd also never seen any examples from Vietnam before. At <$20 including postage & shipping, it would have been rude to pass it by.
