Let them eat cake and choke on its dryness

"Residents who exceed their allotment could see their already sky-high water bills triple."

Good. Let them pay big time. A$$es . . .

I don't understand, we have tiered water pricing here even though we don't have a drought. Has California NOT had tiered pricing all this time? There were some people here who paid over $6000 per month for their water. I say paid, because after a few months, they stopped.

It adds up, even for aSSes . . .

Some people are such jerks, it never fails to amaze me.

It is definitely a problem here. It makes me so angry when I go on a walk in the morning and see water just pouring down the sidewalk. During the last drought we lived in Lake Arrowhead and the water district there is insane. We didn't water a single thing outside, but we had 7 people living in our house. We were listed as a high water user-even though I had restrictors on both our showers and set timers for the kids taking showers. I was so careful. Yet, the people who had homes on the lake had lovely grass and flowers and they watered their yards night and day with no problem.

Our current HOA sends notices about fining us for brown spots on our grass even with the drought. I really wish everyone could just get on the same page. Droughts eventually end, but it will happen again.

This is just terrible. I've always thought of grass as a water waster for the most part. I grew up in a house with no grass. Backyard was deck and shrubbery and some trees. Front yard was pavement garden and rocks. When I own and have control I plan on a front yard of low maintainence shrubbery, rock garden, and flowers. Backyard may have some grass for a children's play area but not a lot full of mostly unused grass.

We didn't have kids so we should be able to use all the water we want.

It'll never add up to the water consumption that parents are responsible for because THEIR water-using kids will have water-using kids ... then THEIR water-using kids will have water-using kids ... not to mention all the fossil fuels and plastic water bottles going to the landfills ... :angryfire:

My SO's grandmother has over 160 offspring.
We have zero.

Is there's a pill/surgery that can make people gay, to save the planet?

Worst of all, THEY STILL GIVE TAX DEDUCTIONS FOR HAVING KIDS. :wall:

It's tiered, but *shockingly* people with wealth and influence are allowed to "appeal" their tier status, which is what has been happening. Huge golf courses, resorts, HOA's, etc. plead to keep using obscene amounts of water yet be charged the cheapest amount for example, and certain wealthy neighborhoods can pay less.

I like the idea that they can pay more. I purposely didn't have a lawn put in with my new home, because I live in a very dry area and it's not practical to water it daily for me. HOWEVER, if you want to keep that lawn nice and green, go ahead and pay the extra. If you are that rich that you want to pay $6k/month for a green lawn, I'm sure the city will use that money well.

In our area, golf courses don't pay extra, nor do business or apartment complexes. I understand farmers need the water for growing food, but business like golf courses shouldn't be exempt in my opinion. When there are communities in a state that are going without water entirely the very wealthy should not be able to pay more to use more, imho.

Idiots. Wealth will always get you what you want. Sadly it doesn't get you common sense. Sense of entitlement maybe...

We're working on seeding our grass over to dutch clover. It's more drought tolerant, plus bees like it and honey bees are in trouble everywhere. And it blooms-we know how I like a pretty yard.

We have one stock tank that part of the house gutters drain into when it rains, and we use it to water what we can, when we can. It's not a strange thing for me to be outside in the pouring rain w/a slicker on, watering the plants, to drain the tank as it's raining so the water isn't wasted. We've got three more spots we're looking to put tanks in as well, to help w/the water usage.

Our lawn and the neighbors lawn (they are as obsessed w/keeping their grass pristine as we are about keeping our yard blooming and beautiful) always stay the greenest during the drought. We mow ours longer-most people mow down to about dirt-which encourages weeds, and when there's no rain, the grass has nothing to nurse it along so it gets burnt, which encourages more weeds and looks like shit. Can't tell people that tho-they act like you're stupid.

The most we've ever paid for a month of water is around $300-$350, and that's for water/sewer/garbage, personal use and watering outside when we get stuck in the middle of 2 months w/no rain and temps of 100. Water is crazy expensive here. We put in an outside water meter to help keep costs down as well, since we don't have to pay the sewer cost on that water. And if we feel we're watering too much, we stop, end of story. Enough to get by so our plants don't die.

Humans seem to have some sort of mindset that we have carte blanche over everything on this planet at the expense of everything else. It's pretty pathetic actually. Shouldn't matter if you have no kids or 10 kids-we shouldn't have the right to exploit the resources for our own amusement/enjoyment just b/c we want to. Nobody wants to look at the big picture.
