Leon Mege - Just the setting or the whole deal

Calling Leon Mege owners out there! Do most of you send him your own stones for setting or do you rely on him to source them? In particular, I am referring to the centre keystone. I would like him to make a ring for me quickest possible and he said it would be best if he sourced the stones for me in that case. How can I verify the stone he send abck in the finished product is indeed what I paid for, and for that matter those who used their own stones, how do you know it comes back with the same stone? Is it just based on his ''reputation''? Do the stones he source all come delivered with the GIA cert as well? As i have to work with him long distance, I am quite concerned about the lack of much control over the work process. All input appreciated!

Hi duck,

Just a Leon owner wannabe here.

But I'll give you a bump, and share what I have seen. Most tend to pick out their own center stone. If it is going to have pave, or side stones, they almost always let him pick them out, and that's what I would recommend.

Leon does an amazing job of picking out sidestones for people. most her do pick out their own stones but one gal had Leon find her the most amazing 3 carat cushion I''ve ever seen. If you think it will speed the process up for you, i''d give him a try and see what he can come up with for you. Just let him know what type of cert. and general specs you would like. I think most of us her are PS are just way to anal to just let someone else pick out a stone which is why you don''t see many around her doing it.

I agree- Leon can pick a nice diamond... but THERE ARE TOO MANY VARIABLES! Why not just call GOG when they open on Tuesday, pay by wire, and Leon will have your stone the next day?

I would definitely have leon pick sidestones, but not necessarily the center stone. Why not pick it yourself if you fall in love with a stone from a pricescope vendor? They can ship the stone overnight to leon and the project won''t take any additional time.

Terrific idea to choose a stone at GOG and have them send it over to Leon. Do you want a round or something else?

I think Lm only picked her sides.

Leon, like anyone else, has certain preferences for visual and YOU should watch some videos and get an idea for what YOU like... then let Leon pick the sides that will best compliment.

I had Leon source my side stones for my RHR. He sent me lots of pics of different matched pairs of half moons and went from there. I bought the center stone from GOG.

Thanks, so looks like most people source their own centre stone. I was worried it might delay the process as I am based in London and I read on the forum that shipping it over could take up to 10 days.... But alternative could be to buy from GoodoldGold if they can ship overnight? I have never bought anything so expensive online... How do you trust that you are getting what you paid for? Im sure the certs etc will all come with, but do you get it appraised after - can you do that with the ring all set? Sorry for ignorance here.... I tried to make this ring im after in London (so that was already a 3-4 week process) and was disappointed with the finished product, so really eager to find a quick alternative. How then does Leon send back the finished product? Do you pay for the shipping and insurance? Or does he? How much does insurance cost? Sorry, lots of questions!

Best to ask those questions to GOG and to Leon. Since you''re in the UK, I don''t know how that all works. But they will do everything to make it easy for you. Time frame for a Leon setting is 6-8 weeks, depending. Good luck!!!

Yes, you''d have to talk to Leon about sending the ring to you. If you did buy a stone from another vendor such as Good Old Gold, I would have it directly sent to Leon to set for you. Jonathan (at GOG) will write an insurance appraisal and include the setting once it is set. There are no worries with either GOG or Leon. Both are honest and reliable, and the stones are graded by independent labs anyway. I have dealt with both and so has Kaleigh.

What kind of stone are you looking for?

Yes. Call and ask to speak to Jon, he''s the head honcho there. Very nice, and he''ll help you end up with a great ring. He may very well be able to answer some of the LM questions too.
