Hey everyone, I am new here at posting to the pricescope forums, but have been reading alot. I am looking to get an ering soon. I know she like the clean look of the round diamond solitaire. I was looking at Jared (gotta start somewhere!) and a nice Leo caught my eye. It also mounted to a nice (Leo) band that 18k white gold with a platinum head. The specs on the diamond is:

Shape/Cut: Round Modified Brilliant
Measurement: 6.44 - 6.49 x 3.96 MM
Depth: 61.2
Table: 57.5
Girdle:Thin to slightly thich
Culet: None
Weight: 1.02 carats
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Clarity: SI(2)
Color: I
Fluorescence: None

Gemex certification: All 3 categories are in the Very High section

The price on the tag was $5999.99 (w/mounting)

Is this a good price for what it is? Let me know if more details are needed (it does not have any of the angles on the paperwork...)

Can you suggest alternatives/improvements. This is just about at the edge of my budget, but i really want to get the best with my money (and spend a bit more if needed!)

Thanks everyone!!!

You should do a Pricescope search of similar diamonds to determine the competitive level of the pricing. It is a more fair way to do this than to give some off-hand opinion. Many folks prefer to shop in retail stores and you will be asked to pay some extra for this face to face privilege. There is far more overhead for stores to cover.

The Leo can be a very nice diamond, but often is not as good as some other ideal and near ideal cuts. They are a "Brand" but not always identical. To me, a Brand needs the high consistency of well known brand names we all are familiar with. Every Kleenex Tissue pops up reliably every time. The same can''t be said for many of the brands associated with diamonds. Some make the grade better than others. Branding in diamonds is not typical of how consumer products in general have been branded over the years. We''ll see which ones survive. Leo appears to have been a success story, but time is the best judge.

Hello! :)

Would you be able to post the crown angle and pavilion angle for this diamond?

You could certainly buy a diamond at least as good as this for less money, if you bought online.

GoodOldGold.com has a couple of 1ct I SI2 diamonds in from $4551 (after discount). Link. This is an amazingly well cut Hearts & Arrows diamond.

You could even go up to an H SI1 for similar money. Here's a 1ct H SI1 for $5643 after discount - again an amazing cut and a H&A diamond.

That would still leave you enough money to buy a lovely setting - and still come in on or arond the same budget.. for a better diamond!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the info and help. This is what i am looking for! This place is awesome!!

Now that i have spent several days on this site, i am second guessing the ring i mentioned in the post above. I have found several loose sones that appear to be great, but i have a hard time purchasing something like that over the web. Does anyone know if Pearlman''s stocks alot of stones? That''s the closest place to me.

The one positive thing that Jareds offers is a warrenty against the loss or damage to the stone itself. It seems to get this, it would be a supplemental cost per year.

Any other thoughts or help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

Give Bill a call, tell him what you're looking for.

You can buy insurance for your (her) ring.

I may be wrong, but I don''t think their standard warrenty covers lost. I am almost sure it doesn''t.

No matter where you get your ring, you should get it insured with an insurance company, not a jewler. Do a search and you will find all the info you need to pick a good insurance company

The insure against loss of the stone out of the ring, but not loss of the ring as a whole.

I''ll be giving him a call, and letting him know I came from PS.!

Thanks, this help is so awesome an valuable!

This one from GOG is a fantastic diamond. Look at the Diamxray image and you can find hotspots between the arrow shafts in the centre of the table as well. And the helium report shows that the minor facets are cut very tight, with very little variance in the angles. ''Cept mabye for the upper girdle facets, but it still falls under excellent. The guys at Octonus who created the helium scanner are very anal (not in a bad way, and no offense meant), and if the variance shows excellent in all minor facets, then it is usually a gorgeous stone.
