Hi everyone,

Thanks to all for commenting and providing valuable information for first time diamond buyers like me. After months of searching, researching, watching youtube videos, visiting shops and asking strange questions to my girlfriend, I've reserved the following stone:

1.74 F/VS2
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2787737.htm

I would like to ask everyone on their opinion of the stone I selected relative to the "other guys" below. I realize that each have their advantages and disadvantages, and the choices are very subjective; however, because this is such a big purchase I have to post this for peace of mind and in hopes that my fellow pricescopers may find something that I may have overlooked or perhaps just give me reassurance in my choice! My reasoning for VS2 is that it is eye clean confirmed, 1.74 because I couldn't find anything larger that was just under 2 ct (small fingers and an interesting tidbit that in Korea it is typical for men to buy multiple wedding gifts for the bride and the brides family vs. one e-ring), and F for peace of mind in case my girlfriend is colour sensitive (difficult to distinguish from a G, but perhaps not an H?)

The Other Guys:
1) 1.63 G/VS1

2) 1.75 G/VS1

3) 2.007 H/VS2

Thanks again!

The stone you have chosen is gorgeous! I don't think you need to worry! My diamond is G VS1 because I just prefer higher clarity. Of the two G VS1's, the GOG stone is the better cut in that it is a hearts and arrows cut which is equivalent to the ACA. It is a grade higher in clarity but a grade lower in color. It is a slight amount smaller, but it also costs $3000 less. I guess you need to think about your budget and the multiple gifts you are thinking about and whether to spend the higher amount on the diamond or not. I would eliminate the H stone. The one you chose and the one from GOG are the best cut, color, and clarity choices of those 4, in my opinion.

Well, all of them are going to be beautiful so you can't really go wrong there. Have you decided on a setting and factored that into your budget? You should be fine with an F or G even if she's color sensitive.

I like the one you picked. F VS2 is my fave color/clarity combo.

Thanks for the comments. Diamondseeker I agree regarding the top 2 choices and had the hardest time choosing between the GOG G VS1 and the F VS2. In the end it came down to the carat size I preferred to purchase.

As for the setting I was planning on copying diamondseeker and get the Vatche U113, but unfortunately there is time constraints which leads to get the 6 prong classic from WF. I will take the 35% in savings as a bonus. The reviews were great on this setting and it looks great in my opinion, and I'm certain my girlfriend will as well.

Cheers!
John

I was looking at the 1.754 you have listed from WhiteFlash. It's an extremely clean stone. It was one of my primary contenders before settling on another stone from JA.

If you're looking at the clarity plot and wondering about the inclusions, what you're seeing on the clarity plot are twining wisps, apparently, even though it technically doesn't say that on the cert. I spoke directly with AGS and that's the answer straight from the source.

Hope that helps a little bit. Good luck with your search!

Thanks for comments everyone.

So, I bank wired yesterday! I hope it's as beautiful as you say diamond seeker! One issue though is that I've decided to get the U113. For some reason, every time I've tried calling WF they were unable to answer my calls. So I requested the setting change via email. The U113 just looks better in my opinion and I like how the prong seems to be higher up to better protect the stone.

I also realized upon going to Tiffany's store today with my gf that her ring size is 3.5, which is smaller than the 4.25 I thought (in Asia, it is common to have "couple rings" during courtship aka "promise rings"). Well, the couple ring was 4.5, which was a bit big for her, so I thought a 4.25 would be safe. So my question is, are vendors ring sizes consistent with each other? Would a Tiffany size 4 for example be almost exactly sized to a WF, Vatche, JA, etc size 4? And if they vary, within what range have you seen +/-?

Thanks!

Re: Last minute feedback/opinion/comments welcome on a 1.74

A Tiffany size 4 should be the same as WF or Vatche. I'm so glad you decided to go with the U113. I think it's the best repro out there. The ring is going to be amazing on her small hand!!!
