Hi all, I have decided to buy a diamond as discussed in this link:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/which-stone-would-you-prefer.57534/

I have come to the decision that the following diamond is my choice - and have put it on hold with whiteflash til monday.

I have decided on the following diamond (discussed as Diamond 1 in the initial post)

Diamond 1:

link: http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-58700.htm
Item Code: GIA-15003582
Price: $9,586.00

Sarin Report Numbers:
Weight: 1.210ct.
Diameter: Avg 6.91 (Min-Max: 6.90 - 6.91)
Diameter Dev: 0.1%
Total Depth: 4.21mm - 60.9%
Table Size: 3.84mm - 55.6%
Crown Angle: 34.8 (34.7 - 34.9)
Crown Height: 1.07mm - 15.5%
Pavilion Angle: 40.7 (40.4 - 40.9)
Pavilion Depth: 2.96mm - 42.9%
Culet Size: .03mm - 0.4%
Girdle Min: 0.7% Thin
Girdle Max: 1.0% Thin
Star/Upper Ratio: 51:49
Lower Girdle Halves: 80% (based on GIA rounded measurements)

GIA Details:
Shape: Round Brilliant
Measurements: 6.90-6.93 x 4.21 mm
Weight: 1.21
Color: E
Clarity: VS2
Cut: Excellent
Finish: Polish - Excellent; Sym - Excellent
Flourescense: None

In the meantime I have now looked at this diamond and feel that for the extra $30.00 it may be a better deal (basically just on being a little bit lager - probably not visually noticeable though).

New possible choice Diamond:

Total Depth: 4.30mm - 61.5%
Table Size: 3.91mm - 55.8%
Crown Angle: 34.7 (34.5 - 34.9)
Crown Height: 1.08mm - 15.4%
Pavilion Angle: 40.7 (40.7 - 40.9)
Pavilion Depth: 3.00mm - 42.9%
Culet Size: .03mm - 0.4%

First, I am by no mean an expert and both stones look gorgeous.

According to the Idealscope pics, it seems that stone 1 may have a bit more scintillation than stone 2 but I may be completely off the spot so I would strongly recommend to ask whiteflash for a comparison of the 2 stones.

As for size, that is true that you won''t see much difference.

Anway, I am sure both are gorgeous and you can''t go wrong whatever your choice

Thanks Jessica,

I agree, I''m sure both diamonds will be stunning. I''m just trying to assure myself that the diamond I have picked out is the best for the $ and my needs. Both of these diamonds are in the size range to go in the MWM flame setting (6.5mm - 7mm) that I"m interested in, and both are eyeclean and colorless (I wanted E-F in color). Just trying to make sure I get the best of whats available at this time.

If anyone has any reasons why I should pick one over the other I''d greatly appreciate it.

Is it 1.22 or 1.29?

Edit: Oh, also - I still like the IS and ASET of stone #1 a little better. Everything just looks every so slightly tighter or something. I'm sure you couldn't go wrong either way though.

Sorry for the typo - Diamond 2 should read that the diamond is 1.292cts. I have edited the original post to reflect the same. Thanks for pointing out the mistake.

Basically the size difference from 1.21 to 1.29 (the difference of Diamond 1 and Diamond 2) is the only reason I would look at Diamond 2 - I also agree that Diamond 1 looks tighter, just checking with everyone else to see if anyone can see a reason to go with Diamond 2 instead of 1 (i.e. Is the size difference enough to make a difference and is there anything else about Diamond 2 that should make it my first choice). Thanks again for the post and noticing my error.

Well, they both look good in photos and idealscope, etc., so I''d probably go for #2 since it is a little larger. But I''d ask someone at WF to look at both stones together before making a final decision.

You are talking about approx .1mm in diameter, which is what would be visible. The rule of thumb that I have been told is that side by side , you typically don''t really see a size difference until about .1mm. On their own (not side by side), I would bet these stones look the same size. I like the tight specs of diamond 1 best, but really think you should have WF pull the two stones and examine them side by side while you are on the phone. Another option would be to have both sent to you and return one. That would require some shipping fees and probably paying for both up front unless you had an appraiser locally that they would ship to.

These look close to twins (and would make great earrings ).

Yes, looking at the two diamonds they are nearly identical... both E color, VS2 quality, and are excellent cuts. Diamond 1 seems to be slightly nicer cut, but diamond 2 seems to be slightly larger (0.1mm) and the price is basically the exact same. I''m just trying to figure out which is the better buy. Having slightly more sparkle, or slightly more size. I realize that I probably can''t go wrong with either of these diamonds, but with them being so close, I''m just trying to "poll the audience" and get some expert advice on which one to go with. With them being the same price ($30 dollars different) and virtually the same in specs the decision is rather confusing to me. Thanks again for the comments. I can''t afford to have them both sent to me, but will definitly call WF tomorrow and see what they have to say between them. Does anyone else have any comments that may help me lean one way or the other?

Hi Brenn,

These are indeed close, and either one should be gorgeous. I too say just have WF take a look, they''ll be honest. And either way, you win.

If you MADE me split the hair, I''d pick the first one.

In this case, with the size being so close, I''d go for the more sparkle option. I think the size difference is going to be negligible. If it was a more significant size difference, I''d go for size since both look to be very well cut. In this case, I''d ask Whiteflash to help you pick the one with more sparkle. You won''t see the size difference.

Well after all the help and scratching of my head, I have purchased Diamond 2 instead of Diamond 1. I spoke with Tracie (sp?) from Whiteflash and she indicated that as suspected the diamonds are basically identical. She indicated that if in Fact Diamond 1 was slightly better cut, it is in no way noticeable. So with this information she advised that I should go with Diamond 2, because of the simple fact that you are getting an equal diamond with more ct weight. She also said that I probably should just go with the AGS over a GIA with everything else equal, just because the AGS is slightly stricter in grading. Thanks all for the help. Now the diamond is on its way (or will be tomorrow) to Mark Morrell to become one with a new flame setting with 6 surprise diamonds. Wish me luck.
