Its been a loooong journey to get here but I think I'm ready to finalize the CAD for my e-ring! I've been through nine CADs, two center stones, one plastic model, and few breakdowns along the way! Please give any feedback of anything you think could be improved still. I'll reattach the inspiration pics for reference.
Here she is!

Inspiration for bright cut halo setting style:

One of the biggest along the way was the top down view having an 'alien head' look (TM by @sledge). This last verison slimmed down the rounded end and I think the bottom three stones are all the same size now. Also I would be wearing it pointy end up and to me it doesnt feel so alieny that direction.
Please any feedback before I pull the trigger would be very much appreciated!

Its gorgeous.

The one thing that stands out is that the big diamond on the rounded side is no longer distinctly larger as it was in the Kristen Coffin inspo. Given the bead-setting that might be necessary, but it does visually depart from that inspo. I know you have struggled nightly, so I almost hesitated to say something.

To me it looks gorgeous

Thank yous! to @KKJohnson and @Acinom

@rockysalamander Thank you for your feedback, as always. I was also thinking the biggest halo stone looked the same as the two next to it, but I'm undecided if I want to change it back. Maybe it looks better this way? I've put together a collage to show this verison side by side with the latest two from last week. The one from 6/25 was the most alieny. Lol

Also, Rocky I really can take it if you have more critiques. I've only stressed from wanting it to be perfect!

I can't wait to see this one finished. It is going to be beautiful.

I feel your pain with making sure everything is just as you want and the laying in bed at night thinking about things.

You're nearly there. Hang in there.

I think it's beautiful too as it is - better than your inspiration picture! The largest diamond in that looks way too big to me proportionately; your ring's proportions look much better (although obviously that's just my opinion, it's your ring so it should be what you think are good proportions - not anyone else!)

I also think if you were going to graduate those three stones again I personally would do it by making the two on the outside smaller (a half way point between that bottom one and the ones next to them) rather than making that bottom one bigger again.

You're nearly there! We're all really looking forward to pictures of the finished product.

Best,
Lydia

Thanks @Lykame! I think these proportions look best two. I feel like its less metally now with the three stones equal size. My fear was that with the bead/bright cut setting, there would have to be alot of metal to fit that big center stone.
I sent an email to Amy to say I was ready foe plastic model of this one. She already warned us progress would be slow the rest of the week due to extended holiday. So it should be ready sometime next week.
Happy fourth everyone! download.jpeg

I'm picking up my plastic model ring from DK tomorrow morning! Very excited to see it and hopefully be closer to casting.
In the meantime, I got a CAD today of my BF's band! We're having a long engagement and he didn't want to have to wait til the wedding to get his bling.
Here's a sneak peak just cuz I want to share:

I had Amy recreate this design from an Indonesian designer. Her ring was in turn inspired by traditional indonesian designs. This one is said to represent love and loyalty between husband and wife. My favorite part is the design looks like X's or circles depending on where you focus. So its two patterns existing in one design. I think that's a really beautiful way to represent two people coming together in marriage.
Sorry for oversharing, I was just so excited to see it!:appl:

Both designs look amazing! I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished articles!

Excited for you @ellebelle and cant wait to see plastic models and even better, glamour shots!

It looks beautiful to me!!!!

I picked up my plastic model yesturday and I'm loving wearing it around the house! The gallery is so pretty and delicate and the halo finally looks proportionate.
There was only one slight issue I spoke to David. Regarding the point of the halo and the v-prong. He says its going to be really tight fitting the halo stones around the V and may need to extend the point slightly to make more room. I told him I was ok with whatever slight changes he needed as long as the tip stayed pointy and not rounded out and the stones not spaced out.
I'm really excited and I think we are going to start casting this week!

Ok that's really cool! That profile view is stunning - I've mentioned elsewhere that until I got a diamond ring I never realised quite how much time one spends looking at the profile view!!!

Interestingly I can kind of see the issue about the tip and the halo stones just based on your plastic model. I wonder how he will do that without changing the proportions of everything? However from what you say it doesn't sound like to much of a big deal!

That is so seriously exciting, thanks for keeping us updated! :D

The profile view is my favorite part of the setting so far!
I think that picture exaggerates the issue, but you can see how the spacing is very tight. He mentioned that the change would be very slight- only a mm or so. He didn't seem too worried, so I'm trying not to stress about it. He just said it needed to be addressed so he could set the stones just right.
Unfortunately, I think this could be end of my updates for awhile. My BF and I agreed my involvement would end after the plastic model was approved. He's going to take the reins from here because he wants me to be suprised with the final ring. :kiss2:

Looks gorgeous @ellebelle. I am glad that you are happy, as that is what matters the most.

What I find funny is that I wasn't all that impressed with the green plastic model of my girl's. Granted, we made changes afterwards. But it was so chunky and bulky in comparison to the purple wax mold they used for the casting. And then the actual ring once it's all set and polished really transforms into pure sexiness.

So if you love it now, I am sure you will be blown away with the final product. Can't wait to see it done!! :cool2:

Thanks @sledge. Btw, your final ring is gorgeous and very sparkly!
I kept thinking about how the plastic version is supposed to be clunky but I don't think mine is that bad! I've seen clunkier settings in showrooms. Lol Actually the first one I got was wasn't quite as nice and the details in the gallery were harder to see. This one is very clean and makes me excited that the end result will have really delicate details.
I just hope my BF is nice and doesn't make me too long to see it!

Considering his drive for perfection I feel sure that it will be utterly perfect and that you have nothing to worry about! But oh no! I'm super pleased you're pending engagement but really hoping he doesn't make you wait too long!!! For your exclusive sake only, honest...!

Oh that must be so exciting as well, it's lovely that you've been fully involved in everything but that it will still be a surprise, too.

I saw your later comment about the likelihood of the plastic model being bulkier etc. I have to agree with you that I think that model looks pretty awesome and not too bulky at all. The proportions really suite your finger as well. I'm sure the final version will exceed your expectations and also I bet that profile is going to be super delicate and beautiful.

Can't wait for updates whenever they happen. :)

Hi! I don't know how I missed all of your posts and this is the first time I'm seeing any of them! I think this is going to be an amazingly beautiful ring!!!
Interestingly enough, and I'm not a cad-expert by any stretch, my first impression of the cad sketches and now seeing the plastic model was that the "V" prong was overpowering or maybe over-positioning the melee at the pointed end of your halo. I am glad that DK suggested adding a millimeter or so to the pointed end of the ring. I think the stones there would've appeared either too small or too covered up by the v-prong.
Otherwise, as I said, the ring will be spectacular, for sure!!! Can't wait to see the finished ring!!! Good luck!!! :)

@Blingalingaling thank you so much for the kind words!
I emailed Amy this morning to confirm some final details (the v-prong spacing, metal choices, bright cut setting). She confirmed everything I asked, but said the v-prong was fine as is and won't cover the halo. I asked her to double double check with David. I'm confident he will get it right.
I also gave her my BF's email and explained that he would take over from here. It was very hard to tell her NOT to send me glamour shots... :oops2:
So that offically ends the updates on my ring! I have a slight change to make on the mens band and soon that will be off to casting as well.

I have my fingers crossed that he won't make me wait too long. He's pretty anxious to get it on my finger! Our one year of dating anniversary on July 23rd so I suspect it will happen that day! Only two weeks away!

I know this has been a bit of a difficult journey for you, but I do hope you'll do a thread on the men's band too!!!!!!!!!!! :mrgreen2::mrgreen2::mrgreen2:

wow what a profile! i can't wait to see the finished product.

So excited for you! It will be gorgeous!

Update on my ring!
My boyfriend went over to DKJ today and met with Amy and David. They showed him the glamour shots and he says it looks really good! He says Amy and David both complimented the design and how beautiful it turned out.
He's been showing friends and coworkers and they all can't believe he got a custom ring for that price.
I'm even more excited and can't wait to see it!

Yay! Super excited for you. When do you get to see the ring with your own eyes? Will you see it before the proposal?

No, I won't see it until the proposal....
Our agreement is that it has to happen before we move in together in Sept so he can't make me wait too long. Lol
