posting on a diamond forum with 89% of the members being women? would you be comfortable being a "regular poster" on a forum with 89% men?

I would feel quite special indeed!

I don't think it's all that strange if you have some knowledge, insight, and opinions to share.

I love that we have guys posting here. You add a different dimension to the forum.

I'm usually the only girl on my Star Trek forums. Some of the guys who post there don't even realise that I'm not a guy. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

On a lot of my tech boards, I am the only girl or one of the few, and most don't even realize I am a girl.

Always good to get a male perspective on things--hope you continue to contribute for many years to come! Does your wife ever post here anymore?

Not at all. My workplace is the opposite; 89% men and 11% women.

Of course we came here because of a common interest, diamonds/gems.
We stick around on fora like Hangout because the community holds more good than bad for us.

I don't really care what someone's gender is.
I talk to women the same way I talk to men … which some women find offensive.
I just don't believe in 'teams'.

The gender of only one person matters to me, my SO's.

I do post on a board where I believe I am the only regular female poster . . .

Sometimes they have threads that descend into sexist nonsense. I ignore those threads and do not post to them or respond in any way.

So far, they haven't gotten the hint.

But most of the time, I am comfortable there.

I think you got me mix up with some other member. my wife posted here on PS? ... She is not a member of any internet forum.

Hi,

No, I don't think its weird if you have an interest in the topic. I wonder if it isn't hard for guys to overlook the pettiness and nastiness of some of the women on here. We have lost men because of it.

I have posted on a mostly male dominated board. There might have been only 3 women. For 3 or 4 yrs that board gave me so much good info, and they didn't care if you were female. It has since imploded and is worthless. Ridiculous fights erupted and most people left. But it was good.

DF, it was stock board.

Some times it is hard.
I'll often respond once or twice, but when pettiness and nastiness reaches a point, or the conversation is hopeless since both 'sides' start repeating, I try to just stop responding.
I try to resist the urge to correct words of mine they have twisted, or conclusions they try to pin on me. (You said X therefore you Y!)
Others can read, and think.

BTW, men can be petty and nasty too.
Actually the most petty and nasty poster I've ever encountered was a man. (No, it is not me. )

No, and yes.

Ditto. Most of my "majority male" forum experiences are due to liking scifi.

No. I'm part of an exotic car forum, and it's mostly guys. When I contact locals for events and meets,
I get "cool dude" "alright man" in responses.. Even though my screen name is feminine. They don't know I'm a girl.

Do YOU feel weird about being one of the few men?!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO a Star Trek forum? :appl: Is there a Patrick Stewart sub-forum to wax poetic about his hotness? Or is it TOS vs. TNG?

I used to moderate a shark forum and that was mostly men.

I don't think it's weird for men to post on here at all.

There's a women's fitness forum I lurk on, and there are quite a few men who post.

The male/female ratio does not bother me, as I had been on boards that have far more male than female.

And no, I do not believe it is weird for gents to have an interest in jewellery, just as I do not find it weird for ladies to be interested in cars/gaming/etc...

DK :))

There was a time when the guys had a monopoly on wearing diamonds.

This is the Maharajah of Indore wearing the Indore pears. I think he wore them well.

Others got a little carried away.

I used to post on a watch forum that was almost all men. I was noob, and they were all very helpful and great. There was no issue.

Nope, it's just a subject of shared interest...

I agree.

I think of the nasty posters as individuals, not as representatives of their sex.
