White House’s Stephen Miller: ‘We are actively looking at’ suspending habeas corpus
"White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller said Friday that the... administration is ‘actively looking at’ suspending habeas corpus, the right to challenge the legality of a person’s detention by the government. Miller’s comment came in response to a White House reporter who asked about ... entertaining the idea of suspending the writ of habeas corpus to deal with the problem of illegal immigration into the United States."

White House’s Stephen Miller: ‘We are actively looking at’ suspending habeas corpus
Miller claimed the U.S. can suspend the right to challenge the legality of a person’s detention “in time of invasion.”www.msnbc.com
The wiki def in case you aren't a lawyer: Habeas corpus is a legal procedure by which a report can be made to a court alleging the unlawful detention or imprisonment of an individual, and requesting that the court order the individual's custodian to bring the prisoner to court, to determine whether their detention is lawful.
That's f-ing insane. Someone on twitter called it a soft launch into martial law.
Mayor of Newark arrested after protesting at the ICE detainment center. They love to see POC in cuffs.

A message is being sent. Loud and clear.
I have been listening to a podcast about the 1936 Olympics. It’s called “Revisionist history”
Hundreds of thousands of people protested US participation in the games. Jesse Owens was the star. But instead of proving the Arian race wasn’t the best, the games served to legitimize the Nazi regime.
In 1936, Los Angeles was as segregated as Mississippi.
Apparently the Nazis studied how the US justified segregation as a legal matter.
It’s all so chilling. Eerie…. looking at what’s going on right now.
It just keeps getting worse. And all the people who said it was NBD, I wonder what they think now? Like how far in the "First They Came" poem do we have to get before people decide it's enough?

I wrote a post late last night about what happened in NJ yesterday, deleting it due to wondering if I crossed a line. I was extremely upset after watching the news. Many Ice personnel had their faces covered up. If any of these people approached me on the street I would have been terrified. I felt sick watching the video. Between this and watching what they did to a 16 year old girl who was trying to be with her mom, I hate what is happening. Is this the new normal for American now? Are we supposed to accept cruelty?
Unfortunately, over 77 million people willingly chose it.
I’m proud of our judicial system working in this case to spring someone from detention who was being held in captivity on dubious charges. I strongly disagree with holding visa holders indefinitely, and this is being done broadly (see documentation on the Canadian who was held. I can confirm same detention has been done to even more totally innocent Visa holders.)
However, according to a Democracy Now video, Khalil Mahmoud went right back to protesting with hundreds of others at Columbia yesterday. He said “ I am first and foremost a Palestinian” and he will go on protesting against this genocide (paraphrased).
I’m not sure why he is here other than to do that. What is his job? How is he supporting his family? Why did he come here? What does he intend to do in America when he is first and foremost a Palestinian. What resources is he taking from people who actually want to be in America as Americans? His records show his paperwork was expedited by the authorities when he was getting in a few years ago. A Progressive US Representative escorted him back to Manhattan. FYI, the authorities that supported him did not go to bat for real Americans being held overseas, even with lobbying efforts. Look up the case of Gonzalo Lira who died in a Ukrainian prison.
I think Mahmoud’s behavior is off. Even if I agree with his sentiment that there are human rights abuses that must stop, and I agree with the right to protest, I think someone who goes right back to hundreds of protesters, many foreign and Visa holders, who he’s been leading to disrupt classes, before going back to his own newborn child and wife for even a day, um, there’s something VERY VERY off about this.
We, the USA, should not be letting foreign actors into our country who will inspire and be proud of first their foreign nationality and second of anarchy. They are taking advantage of our freedoms and system which prioritizes freedom and justice, and turning it on us.
Sorry if this sounds harsh. I supported his release and still do because we’ve got to bolster checks and balances for Visa holders. But now I saw this. What he is up to is to destabilize our system and take advantage of it.
What I find really off is watching children and journalists burning outside hospitals, civilians tied to IDF vehicles as human shields, healthcare workers shot and buried in shallow graves, and desperate people lured by the promise of aid and being shot.
If this is the amount of disgust and heartbreak I feel as an observer, I can’t imagine what it’s like to see it live streamed as it happens to family and friends. Disrupting a few classes over it seems pretty damn restrained to me.
Edited to add links for every atrocity
You don’t have to educate me although it’s good for others to know what’s happening. I already agree from day one this needs to end.
We do not, however, need to invite in and prop up anarchists who have no desire to be Americans and whose only public activity so far is to promote disruption and disorder.

Al Jazeera Media Network is owned and funded by the Qatari government, specifically the Qatari family… critics often point to the financial and political influence of the Qatari state. The network's chairman, Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, is a member of the ruling Al Thani family.
Several countries have banned Al Jazeera or closed its bureaus, primarily due to accusations of bias, support for terrorism, and interference in regional affairs. These countries include Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, and Jordan.
You can see the same horrible story from Australia’s publicly-owned news.
All other links I shared are from mainstream U.S. sources.
