K round diamond for yellow gold ring

Thanks. I did that and compared with a J for reference, it does seem closer to the third one than to the first one. If only it was a couple hundred cheaper, that would make it an easier decision (I assume there's no ability to negotiate with online retailers?).

I don't think it ever hurts to ask about price. And it may depend on the stone/vendor.

FWIW, I do think the J looks noticeably less tinted than the Ks. Are you trying to hit a certain size minimum? I'm still just concerned about a surprise K engagement ring, regardless of metal color. I'd feel better if your girlfriend DID know more about diamonds and expressed to you that size/cut are the goal or that she likes warm stones. There are many who feel J can be a gamble, but at least you'd have piece of mind that it's "near colorless." Videos and photos are only so reliable.

What the PP mentioned is very true, too. There is a much wider variance the further down you go. If it's closer to L, good or bad, tint will be there. Thinking more about it, if I were adamant about the K, I actually would stick to the super ideal vendors like ACA or CBI. There are some posters who have amazing ones on this forum that face up very white from what I can tell in the photos.

I wish you could find a well cut J in person. I feel like that would give you some clue as to how you'd feel about the K. But maybe it's worth seeing a well cut I even? If you look at an I and still think it looks plenty white, you are probably headed in the right direction.

ETA: I am not an expert, but I do think that last IS looks good. I may have missed this, but is it eye clean with the crystal?

Here's the idealscope for 1.21-K-SI1. What do you think? To me it looks pretty good, but

This one is $2000 cheaper than the 1.21-K ACA from white flash! It is a very good deal. Also it has strong fluorescence, which is a plus for light yellow diamonds.
I personally will pick this one.

I'll do more looking around tomorrow, maybe I'll get lucky and find one where I can take a look at K in person.

If you mean the one from the last post (1.21-K) - it looks clean to me, at least when I reduce the zoom to something like 5x rather than 20x, I can't see anything.
Is that something that a JA customer service person can confirm? On the clarity diagram on the report, nearly all the inclusions were concentration around the edges (so I assumed that some could maybe be at least partially hidden by a prong).

Cool-keep us posted!

Yes, for the last one.:) James Allen should be able to give you some feedback on the eye cleanness if they can get their hands on it. The clarity diagram is helpful in making a good guess, but sometimes won't tell the whole story. I'd want someone to check the color of the crystal and from what distance it becomes noticeable. It would be great if they are mostly prongable!

Will do.

I'm still torn between the options, but I will make a decision today or tomorrow. There's no doubt that the ACA is worth a premium over the 1.21-K, but the size of the premium is the only thing I'm debaitng. If this was anything else I probably wouldn't hesitate and would pick the cheaper 1.21-K since value-wise it seems the smart choice, but it feels odd to use the same metric for an engagement ring for my gf...

I think the upgrade policy on the ACA is worth the premium. I know you may never plan to upgrade— many of us felt that same way— but you just never know. It’s nice to have the freedom of that option with Whiteflash.

I think it'll be more up to her than me ;)

Do you think it'd look nice in this setting?

Yes! That’s a beautiful setting. I had this one on white gold and it was so lovely. I almost ordered it in yellow gold but ultimately decided I wanted yellow gold with white gold prongs so I went with a different setting. But it was stunning and classic and I just couldn’t believe the awesome price point.

Thanks, glad to hear that!

Just to update you all - I have made the order for the 1.214-K ACA. I'll share a picture when it arrives.

Thank you for your help!

Congrats! What setting did you go with? Can’t wait to see it.

Look forward to seeing this, @MC7:)

Please post photos when you get it! I hope she loves it!

Congratulations! I cannot wait to see the pictures of the ring.
