Hi all!

We just got married on NYE (yay!) and an thrilled about my set. My engagement ring setting has a plate on the bottom and I notice it just has gotten so dull over the months.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good cleaning device?? Eternally grateful for the recos!

Can you show a picture of the inside and the side? I just want to be clear on what you mean by plate.

Hi! Don't hVE a pic but the the basket is open on the sides and the bottom that sits on the finger has a white gold plate to help the stone face up appearance. Thank you!

Its such a great setting and I love the design. But, it will be a PITA to clean. You have a couple of choices and they all will end with rubbing alcohol which will help evaporate the water under the setting. :mrgreen2:

The challenge is that there is accumulated grease/oil/stuff under the stones stuck between the diamonds and the cup underneath. You will need to try a few things. You have a lot of prongs, so do inspect them frequently with a loupe.

A good first step is to try Dawn blue dish soap + very warm water. Soak for several minutes. Then, add a tiny bit of ammonia (tiny!). Move the rings around in the solution. Give them a good scrubbing with a soft toothbrush. Then, using a kitchen colander underneath, ring thoroughly with very warm water in the faucet. Shake out what water you can. Dump rubbing alcohol over them making a point to get under the stone. Let the alcohol vent off. See if that worked.

You can also try an ultrasonic cleaner (just inspect your prongs every so often with a 10x loupe). I use Dawn in my ultrasonic. Again, follow with alcohol.

Steam may also be your friend (try a cappuccino maker if you have one handy). Again, follow with alcohol. But, hold the ring with tongs (I have rubber tipped ones I use). You will not be able to hold the ring during cleaning.

I would also visit an art supply house to find very very stiff bristled brushes that can fit into the gaps in the basket to get the bottom of the stone to have a scrubbing.

I like this ultrasonic for most people (also good for eye glasses).

Congrats on your wedding.
Yes, as above, an ultrasonic cleaner is very helpful. I just use a soft toothbrush with a little dishwashing liquid and dry with the hair dryer on cool. Rubbing alcohol also dries without a residue.
Just a thought, if the “back” of your engagement ring is fully enclosed, it’s going to be a bit tricky to clean. There are tiny gaps between the diamonds, just enough for oily junk to get through, but hard to clean out. I think you’ll have to use an ultrasonic cleaner regularly. And don’t go putting on any hand lotions / creams while wearing your rings, to help keep them clean.
And can I say I LOVE your new set, so unique - modernist cubist style. Wow.

Love this set! Quite unique.
After it is cleaned will you post more photos, or maybe even make a thread?
Would like to know if you designed it, or how it came about.
Congratulations on your marriage!

YES YES YES, THIS! Oh my gosh that’s cool. I love it! I want many more photos and info.

ETA: thread posted above, and very much enjoyed.

IMG_8786.JPG Hi all! Thank you so so much for the recommendations!

I immediately bought the recommended ultrasonic cleaner and it arrived today! Amazon is scary fast haha.

It's super hard to take good photos but it's like night and day- my husband immediately noticed so you know it's for real!

My e-ring was made custom by Jewels by Grace and we got the center stone from her as well. Believe or not, the wedding band is *not* custom- we got it 'off the rack' from Trabert Goldsmiths in San Francisco. I did have them make one small modification so the rings would better fit together.

The only thing that stinks is I live in NYC so now I don't have a local jeweler! I desperately need my e-ring sized and no one locally will touch a piece they didn't make :/ I also definitely should get a spacer as I already am seeing a couple of light scratched on my e-ring.

So very glad it helped! Its gorgeous. Step-cuts show dirt more than brilliants, so keep it nice and clean. I keep my ultrasonic in the bathroom and drop my ring in a few times a week while I shower.

Thank you! I have visited them before- does anyone have experience with them working on rings they didn’t sell?
