Well, the FedEx truck should arrive any minute now, so while I''m waiting I wanted to post about my experience with Jonathan at GOG and Juan Manuel at Van Graff. Jonathan helped me pick out a gorgeous .855 ideal cut H&A I SI1 stone at an unbeatable price. He couldn''t have been more pleasant in his e-mails, and I finally got the chance to speak with him on the phone a few days ago. He''s even sweeter in person! His staff was always very helpful and prompt in responding to my e-mails, and I was given the option of a layaway plan while waiting for my setting to be made.

After reading the posts here and on DT, I decided to have a ring custom made by Juan Manuel of Van Graff. Like Jon, Juan was a true gentleman and a pleasure to work with. His designs are incredible, and together we settled on a platinum semi-mount with pave diamonds and two small accent diamonds. Juan quoted me an amazing price for this hand-crafted ring--less than half the price of other name brand designers. When the ring was finished, he shipped it to Jon in NY to be set with my center stone. Now I''m just waiting for the moment of truth to arrive!

Here are some pics of the finished ring that Christen at GOG took for me. Thanks again to Jonathan and Juan for a wonderful engagement ring buying experience. I can''t recommend you both highly enough!

Hi Liz!!!

While the pics are gorgeous, you'll see they still don't do the ring justice.

Juan did a fine job crafting the ring and after the stone was set my staff was oogling over it!

Beautiful diamond & ring!!!!

He was on vacation for awhile and then said something about getting a magnetometer and trekking around Mexico looking for diamond bearing kimberlite pipes!

Thanks for the info. I looked on the net, but must have missed that update on him. Does this change with Juan mean that Van Graff in general isn't selling any more?

Juan has stated that he will be taking some time off from doing any custom work as he will be working on some rockets (another passion of his) but I also read that he is still taking orders for stock items - the ones he has on his website. I personally own a pair of VG earrings (1.90 cttw) and the craftmanship is amazing. Im not a big sim fan, but my VGs are amazing in fire and brilliance!

Juan was reading Pricescope tonight. I wanted to make sure he saw this thread:

Hi Johan,

No, I am not Scottish
This is because I am a jeweler during the day and trasvesti at night!

ja,ja,ja I am kidding, I am mucho macho but a friend did in Photoshop a picture of an old woman with my face and I posted it, I will try to find this picture to post it here, it looks fun.

So...the competition arrives! It is ever thus! Just don''t post any pictures of yourself in your wedding gown, Hest-at least not any shots of the rear-and I may still have a chance with Juan ;-).
