I think I'm going to pick out a setting now, no reason that it shouldn't still be available in 3 months...... Will pick a diamond when it gets closer... I don't want to have the ring here, but certainly don't want to have it sitting in a store for a while either. How do those online retailers deliver?

They will deliver overnight FedEx, usually. But you just mean pick the setting now so you know what to tell them to order when you choose the diamond, right?

Can I show you a few of my favorites?

I think your budget would make very close to 1 carat possible, if you are okay with lower color or clarity. James Allen has this 1 carat, H VS2 princess with a GIA report, for $3,860, plus they do a Pricescope discount (I can't remember how much, but any little bit helps): http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/1.00-carat-H-color-VS1-clarity-sku-199848 There are other 1 carat or close to 1 carat stones, as well, I just think this one is pretty.

And a simple 18k solitaire setting is $445: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/engagement-rings/solitaire/18k-white-gold-2mm-knife-edge-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-7027

If you want pave, this setting is $650, which wouldn't be too much over your budget: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/engagement-rings/pave/18k-white-gold-thin-french-cut-pave-set-diamond-engagement-ring-item-289

A halo (with plain shank, my favorite!) is $900, also not too much over budget that you couldn't put it on a credit card and pay it off in a few months: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/engagement-rings/halo/18k-white-gold-pave-halo-diamond-engagement-ring-princess-center-item-6792

I like WhiteFlash and Good Old Gold because I think you'll find it easier to get an ideal cut princess and a better quality setting.

This is my favorite WF setting with diamonds on the shank (and you can see a princess set in it at the bottom of the page):

GOG carries many, many brands of settings, so the choices could be endless, but Gabriel and Co. is a nice brand for settings. Here is a whole page of settings that can be ordered with a princess head:

You'll see that white gold is more economical, but I really like platinum better if the budget allows.

Your budget of around $8000 will be perfect to get a nice 1+ ct stone and setting!

A top cut quality diamond in 1 ct G VS2 will run around $6300, but you maybe could go to H or I color and go a little larger at that budget for the stone. I just wouldn't go lower than I in a princess because they tend to show the tint when the colors go lower. But you'll have to see what is available at the time you are ready to order!

Exactly.... Have one picked out to order when the time comes I find a stone.... Plus if I know what the setting will cost I will have a better idea of what I can spend on a stone.

And, while I am doing my pre-purchase research, is there any reason that I shouldn't insure the ring with my current insurance agent? He said he could write an inland marine policy specifically for the ring instead of using a rider on another policy......
