Long time lurker, first time poster so thanks in advance. Looking at ovals around 1.3 ct for an engagement ring. I had been doing a lot of research and 2 on James Allen have caught my eye.

1: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.31-carat-g-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-1762964
SHAPE: Oval
CARAT WEIGHT: 1.31
COLOR: G
CLARITY: VVS2
POLISH: Excellent
SYMMETRY: Excellent
FLUORESCENCE: Faint
L/W/D (MM): 8.40*6.26*3.92
L/W RATIO: 1.34
DEPTH %: 62.60
GIRDLE: Thin - Slightly Thick
TABLE %: 61.00
CULET: None
CERTIFICATE: GIA

2: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.30-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-sku-2131675
SHAPE: Oval
CARAT WEIGHT: 1.30
COLOR: G
CLARITY: VS1
POLISH: Excellent
SYMMETRY: Excellent
FLUORESCENCE: None
L/W/D (MM): 8.82*6.33*3.67
L/W RATIO: 1.39
DEPTH %: 58.00
GIRDLE: Medium
TABLE %: 58.00
CULET: None
CERTIFICATE: GIA

My main concerns are that oval #1 has what looks like white specks on/in it. Does the diamond just need to be cleaned up? For #2, is the diamond too shallow? The 58% is less than ideal. Also I am not sure if this matters but it seems like from the 360 picture on JA, the center seems to reflect "non-symmetrically." Any input you guys have is much appreciated

I don't see any white specks in #1.

As for #2, I'm not sure if you put it on hold, but it says not available.

That said, the diamond is in fact not facing light symmetrically relative to the camera when rotating on its pavilion, so these videos can really only be used to judge really wonky symmetry and shouldn't be used to judge the symmetry of a stone rated excellent for symmetry by GIA.

I don't really care for either of them, really, but that's because I have a strong preference for a faceting pattern in oval diamonds that usually grades out at the best VG for symmetry, and also tends to produce a chubbier oval than it looks like you're looking for. Of the two you posted, I like the second one better.

This is an example of the type of stone I like. It's too bad that this one is a D with SBF, but it shows the clear facets nicely.

Thanks for the reply. Thats definitely different than what I've been looking at but beautiful nonetheless. My criteria was G+ & VS2+ with a budget of 8-9k.

As far as the diamonds, the specks on the first are easier to see rotating it back and forth. I just haven't seen a similar situation on their site before but the JA chat rep said it just needs to be cleaned up.

She did offer to reserve the 2nd one for 24 hours so I went ahead and did that. Is it worth requesting an ASET of the top choices?

That's in the diamond, so no, it doesn't need to be clean. It says additional clouds not shown.

You can request an ASET, I'm going to hazard a guess the first one won't be a great ASET. I'd wait for some more feedback from others before burning up your 3 ASETs unless you'd be willing to buy from another vendor.

If you're open to a 1.2 I'd call GOG about this one, personally.

The dimensions on that 1.2 are a little smaller than I'm looking for. I think Im going to ask JA for an inspection/ASET on #2 and go from there

Just got the gemologist inspection back for https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.30-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-sku-2131675

213675.jpg

Does anything jump out at you guys? The gemologist said the following...

"I am pleased to inform you that 2131675 is a dazzling, eye clean diamond. It is a true “G” color that faces up whitest of the set. This diamond has a nice brilliance and fire that spreads nicely throughout, making the diamond very lively. Large bow tie within the center, but would be masked by light return. With a very nice shape and outline this diamond would face up larger of the two.

I am positive that diamond 2131675 is the perfect choice for you. Being ranked first among the two, this diamond shows all the characteristics to provide you a dazzling performance."
