I have been looking at a 3.5 carat ''N'' our local jeweler has. It also has strg fluor. The first time I looked at it I loved it! THe second time, I saw more ''yellow'' to it face up, than I remembered. My hubbie does not like it. I am unsure. There seems to be something wrong about a N -Egl Usa rated-like it''s maybe kind of embarrasing. I do not usually let what other people think influence me much. But I am kind of torn. Our jeweler has had it in his inventory for years, and really wants to sell it to us. He says it is an ideal cut, 60/60. I don''t enough specs on it to even know, although it did seem to have quite a bit of fire. And yes budget is a big factor. I want a large stone, just don''t want to pay for it!

The style of ring I am doing will have a halo and pave on the band, and I guess we were concerned that the stone would look awful against the mellee. There have been some beautiful chanpagne colored stones, but those seem to be something different all together. I do love gold, but some of the halo''s I''ve seen in gold look so costumey. Maybe a brushed gold? THe look of the platinum is just so beautiful though. I have also considered doing the halo in gold with yellow diamonds, but that could be something you get tired of real quick.

I would love to see a N, etc in a setting. Any one have one?

Gail, that sounds divine! I would set that diamond with a white halo. Have you seen the jewelry at the fay cullen website? Go there to find inspiration. This one is labeled an M, but i doubt it is ideal cut. I bet your N may be even whiter than this one. http://www.faycullen.com/engagement_rings/800/c825r1d.html

Thank Jelly, I did see that sight. I do agree with you, and this stone looks to me kind of champagneish? I guess what''s hard is that I am doing a custom setting similar to JB Star, and if I put this stone in it and don''t like it, it is a real pain to redo. I really do want something different, but with so many options it''s a little overwhelming.

On second thought, since this stone has been in the jewelry store for nearly 20 years, I guess I could just say I have a vintage diamond, and be right in style.

I think in your situation it will be is there ENOUGH contrast. Sort of - I mean at some point the yellow is enough where you say, "neener, see? on purpose!" lol! And IMO that should be right away... of course in my thinking a G isn''t worth more than a K but oh well lol
