So this is the ring that I am looking at: Halo Pave Set Diamond Engagement Ring, and I was wondering if I could get away with getting a center diamond that is J color?
Based on what I read here, it seems plausible (perhaps me just being overly optimistic ;) ).
The center diamond will be about .8 ct.

Any and all advice is welcome, I'm pretty new to this!

Thanks for your help!

If it's an ideal cut round, I think so. They face up really white. And the contrast you see will be more from the size difference (the melee will perform very differently than the center. I would advise a bezel set center though.

Yes, it will be an ideal cut.
But can you elaborate on what you mean by "the melee will perform very differently than the center"? (I'm quickly realizing that I know less than I thought I did...)
Also, what is a bezel set center exactly?

Thank you!

I have a J colored center stone with a higher colored halo and no bezel. Take a look... (Granted, mine is a cushion cut which is slightly different. And yes, I can see the color contrast in some lighting situations, but not most. Usually I notice it in indirect, ambient daylight, like on a cloudy day, when there is no direct light shining on the ring. But even then it is not an unpleasant contrast of color. But it's a personal preference for sure!)

I own a J colored center stone set in a solitaire, and I wear it with an F-G .02pts x 13 eternity band. I don't like the difference in color. Yes in direct sunlight and in spotlighting, you can't notice it, but you don't live most of life in those circumstances. In diffuse ambient daylight, I don't appreciate the look.
My stone is larger though. With a .8 ct stone, it may not be so noticeable.

Thanks for the feedback!
So I came across this diamond and I am curious to hear your thoughts on it. Do you guys think it will be eye clean?

If you think there's a chance she'd dislike it if she noticed, I wouldn't.

I have a five stone ring, the first pair of sides are 0.43 each and the second pair of sides are 0.12 each. The 0.43s are Js and the 0.12s are F/H and the colour difference is definitely noticeable face-up to me, and it's the first thing on my "to be addressed" list.

Disclaimers:
1. I'm ultra nitpicky in general
2. Nuances of colour is one of my favourite things about jewellery so maybe I pay more attention to it than most
3. DH had to have it pointed out to him and noone else has noticed - or, at least, noone else has commented 8)

Hmm, thanks for your insight. I don't think my SO would be one to be overly concerned about it...but your comment makes me wonder!
And with the setting, it seems like the top down view would be my main concern...tough decisions!

Yeah, that's why I mentioned that the colour difference is visible to me face-up specifically, that's the most important view.
Above disclaimers still apply :cheeky:

Well, hopefully she won't be quite as nitpicky :cheeky:

Here's my .5 ct J/K set in a halo with F/G stones. I almost never notice any color difference. If you have a sub-1 ct stone, and the side stones are melee size, IMO it's unlikely to be a big issue with a J. Yssie's higher-color stones are larger, easier to notice color than bitty bits of glitter that you'll get from melee. That is my hope! I contacted James Allen...perhaps they will be able to give me some insight on the specific combination.

Thanks for all the help so far!

If you are purchasing through JA you could ask that they use lower colored melee in the halo. My ring isn't haloed but I have .02 F/G melee in my band and I almost never see a difference in color face up. The side view has an obvious difference, but like I said my is a solitaire and there is no unobstructed view of the pavillion, depending on the design, your halo may cover much of that view. And like Gypsy said melee will perfom differently than the center stone. F/G melee often look whiter and brighter than a larger center stone of the same color. I'm not sure but I assume that JA uses full cut melee?

I will definitely inquire about that!
And I do not know for certain that JA uses full cut melee, but I would also assume so.

Thanks for your input!
