I suppose old threads are locked intentionally.
This plan has been in the works for awhile, but it's definitely going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if she's considered herself a lady in waiting for quite awhile - she's dropped a few hints of "what do you think of us" over the last year. Hawaii is booked for 8 days soon, with the same proposal plans that I originally had. First morning there, since we'll still be on eastern time, get up pre-dawn and watch the sunrise from the Makapu'u lighthouse. Proposal will take place when the time is right, and I'll have my Canon on the tripod to take "pictures of the sunrise." Little will she know that isn't the reason we'll be saving those shots. Then we'll have 7 more days of engaged fun in Hawaii.. perfect way to get a start on a great vacation. Can't wait for Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, waterfalls, canyons, mountains, island hopping, turtle & whale watching, scuba diving, hiking, surfing, helicopter rides.. I'm sure it'll be a blast.
As for the engagement ring, her tastes shifted after going to a couple weddings in the couple months after my ring thread. I'm currently having Whiteflash design a custom ring based on a cross between the two following rings:
http://www.whiteflash.com/gallery/three-stone-engagement-rings/princess-channel-set-diamond-engagement-ring-8203.htm
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/-Platinum-3-Stone-Channel-Set-Princess-cut-Ring.html
I've attached images of the two rings.
Basically, I'm going with platinum in the cathedral style of the James Allen ring with the prong style (although slimmer) of the Whiteflash ring. No side-facing sidestones or filigree. 1.50ct total weight, not including the center stone. The two center sidestones are 4x4mm, and the 4x channel stones on each side are 2.5x2.5mm. The intent is to have a flush-fitting princess channel-set wedding band, so the prongs on the James Allen won't work. Plus, I'd rather give her the first of a kind - something custom designed around her tastes. Liza & Kellie at Whiteflash have been a pleasure to work with so far.
After searching for over a year of visiting local stores viewing Idealscopes & Asets looking for near-perfect cut & symmetry, nothing came as close as this Whiteflash diamond I purchased:
1.004 ct H VVS2, Ex/Ex, Whiteflash ACA, 5.58x5.58mm
Images attached..
Initially, I wasn't even looking at diamonds that weren't D/E/F color, but after seeing quite a few beautiful H & I princess diamonds set in rings, I have no hesitation now about these colors in a princess diamond. Cut and clarity became a priority as I'm a stickler for brilliance and symmetry.
I'll post pictures once I receive the ring - I'm excited and can't wait!
