IT IS OFFICIALLY HAPPY DANCE TIME!!!!!!!

Wonderful news and congratulations! :appl:

That is just great news!

Well done!

Congrats! What an accomplishment that I am sure took a lot of dedication and self-control!

I can only dream of the time when our house is paid off. I think we have at least 20 more years!

What a great accomplishment!!! Congrats!!

Very exciting! You must be thrilled! Congratulations :appl:

Congratulations!! What a wonderful accomplishment.

WOO WOO

Who kicks butt... MZ kicks butt... WOO WOO

Congratulations! So, so exciting!!!

(More money for blingy?!?)

HUGE HUGE CONGRATULATIONS MZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks again, everyone!

turns out the credit union got the docs but not in time to make the deadline yesterday with the bank.
however, no interest due to the under $15 we actually owe!
the wire payment goes in today!
30 year loan paid in 9 years, 7 months, and 1 week......oh, yeah, I calculated that one out!

we haven't had a vacation in years.............2014?! :appl:

Wow, way to go MoZo!

We had our teeny, tiny house paid off just months before we sold it, but had to upsize to a larger house. Another 20 year mortgage...

It was a beautiful 6 months though...being mortgage free.

Maybe you can swing by and give me some tips?

Hi MZ,

Congratulations! What a feat. Nine yrs-outstanding. I know how proud you must be. It is a big day. Good health to you both in your newly paid up home. Its all yours!

wow that is awesome. Definitely due for a vacation!!! Though even staycations probably feel pretty sweet at this point!

We did the same thing as Begonia, paid off one house and then moved to a larger one and started over with 15 years! But we do hope to pay this one off early, too!

Congratulations, MZ! And you definitely need a vacation if you were putting all your vacation money into the mortgage principle for the last 9 years!!!!!

Woo-hoo!!!!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

Definitely celebrate with a sparkly bauble!

Way to go, MOZO! :appl: :appl:

Most people don't realize that in 30 years, their $100K house will have cost them about $300K.

Luckily, 30 years later, it's usually worth about $300K (historically, anyway)! Now they can sell it and get something Great!

Wait, all the other $300K houses look just like their old house . . .

I know from your posts that you are real estate smart, and you just proved it. :)

I am so impressed MoZo! Can you share a little about your strategy? Did you give up every single thing to pay that off that fast? We are on a fast track but your accomplishment seems so incredible to me. Great job, so happy for you!

Yaaaaay, MZ!! What a feeling, hey?!

9 years is awesome! Ours should be done around the 10-11 year mark. We've made double repayments (bought far below our true level of affordability) from about 3 months in. If I didn't spend so much on jewelry and foster cats, and didn't insist on international holidays, I suppose it would go faster. But it's a balance, I guess.

Congratulations! Such an accomplishment - and yes, start planning that 2014 holiday, you've earned it!

That is awesome!!! Congrats to you and your DH!!!

A million congratulations, MZ. That must feel like an amazing accomplishment!

Come back and let us know when everything is officially squared away :appl: :appl: :appl:

hubby went online last night and confirmed: balance on loan as of yesterday = 0.

if it weren't for vet bills over the last 9 years I think we'd have paid off sooner................................
i'm talking serious $. I quit wanting to know what we'd spent when it hit $38K and that was several years ago and unfortunately several cats ago as well.
i was willing to skip vacations but my cats are family and get what they need when they need it.
pretty much everything else could wait.

congrats to those also paying off early .......................and congrats to those just starting out.

That ROCKS. You must be so happy and relieved and feeling so accomplished. Great job.

Congratuations! When we paid off our mortgage last year, we were so thrilled. But there was no pomp and circumstance on behalf of the mortgage company. Nothing in the mail to confirm a zero balance, nothing! I will say that when we logged onto the mortgage website and the screen said, "This account does not exist, " THAT was exciting! We got a copy of the deed from the county government office.

Kristin, oh yeah, the bank is not thrilled of course.
if hubby hadn't logged on at their website and gone to our account we would not have had any confirmation from them that it was paid. we still haven't rec'd any notification.
i'll be monitoring to make sure they've filed the appropriate paperwork with the county recorders office removing their name!

MovieZombie, when I had to go INTO the tax collector's office to drop off the check-- that is when it really hit me that we owned the house outright! No more escrowed taxes for us. When interest rates were waaay down in these last couple of years, all of our friends kept asking, "did you refinance? You should refinance! It will save you hundreds per month!" It was a little awkward, because we don't discuss these things with our friends and neighbors IRL... but it didn't make sense for us to refinance when we only had a couple of thousand left to pay--the fees associated with refinancing didn't make sense for us. We would just shake our heads and tell the friends, "Nope, nope, didn't refinance.." :)

we had 20% down and so didn't have escrow for taxes and/or insurance. we've paid those on our own for the life of the loan.
but i'm so going to be happy when I see that the property tax records show us as owner of the title with no liens!!!!!!!!!!!!
which also means that I need to let the insurance people know as well...... :appl:
we too didn't refi due to fees associated with doing so and knowing we were going to be out in 10 years or less.
i'll check with the county recorders' office in about 6-8 weeks to make sure the bank did file appropriately.

now its "only" property taxes, insurance [not required because there is no loan], and maintenance.
I have a friend that has no property insurance on his home in redwood city because he paid it off years ago.
not sure i'm that gutsy!

Yikes on the friend who doesn't have insurance!?? No way would I do that!

Confess I had to google where Santa Cruz actually is BUT CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :appl:

thanks, hot!
actually, I live here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boulder_Creek,_California

but we are in santa cruz county and 20 miles from it via highway 9......
your google map will find it!

can you believe that just a mere 20 miles the other way and one is into the SF Bay Area?!
