I’m curious about this process of buying to recut. Did you look for certain parameters in your stone that would make it “easier” to recut to a transitional? Or knowledge of general weight loss that occurs in recutting that would allow you to “buy up” from your desired outcome weight?
I have the stone I plan to recut. When purchasing I was mainly looking for really good clairity (I’ve heard there’s less risk with a high clarity recutting) good price, and higher carat. I kinda lucked out since my stone was, if I remember correctly, steep deep cut which is good for an old cut stone according to a few people I’ve contacted for quotes on recuts. I picked the size based off of if weight loss was .5ct but it would probably be closer to .3 for the stone I purchased. I actually really love the stone as is and will set it in a very cheap setting to enjoy it until I get around to doing the recut. I’m not in any hurry just kinda like the whole process and reading about other people’s experiences!
