ISO CS 7.0-8.0mm and solitaire setting for retro ring guard

I am thrilled with a Ruby Lane Red Tag Sale find I scored last weekend— a retro ring guard in 14K white gold. It’s currently getting prongs tightened at my local jeweler. I’m looking for an inexpensive CS solitaire to purchase for it. In these pics, I’m wearing my anniversary CBI solitaire. It’s a 1.23 carat diamond.

I plan to get the solitaire setting through the jewelry store. I want it to be very inexpensive; I may get 2-3 ultimately to change out the colors!

I’d love suggestions for the setting you think may work (Stuller?), and I’d also love ideas for the colored stone. Amethyst? Tourmaline? Zircon? Garnet? I think 7.0-8.0 would work best, depending on the head and height of the setting.

Thank you! It was so unusual, I put it on my wish list On Ruby Lane, then promptly forgot about it until I received an email that it was part of the 50% off sale! I was so excited. It’s exactly what I was looking for—a really “out there” sort of design.

I want to order a solitaire and CS for it this week!

These are GREAT suggestions—thank you! How much do you think a lightweight, simple solitaire setting in 14K would run? $300? $400?

For the CS, I just want a good value. I think it’s smart for me to start with a garnet or amethyst ($200ish?) to be sure that I enjoy wearing this look. If I find a setting I like, and works well with the wrap, I would be totally on board with spending more on other stones/colors in order to change out the look.

Who carries top of the line 7.0mm round amethysts?

The finewater garnet is almost too good to pass up—I wonder what it would do in various lighting conditions. I have a BB spess garnet, so I do have familiarity with how they behave...

It came! I really like it. I can’t wait to experiment in more lighting environments today. If I thought photographing diamonds was difficult—this is harder! It’s sitting in my old ering setting:



This shot surprised me! Total black hole with a glint at the bottom that rotated around as I moved my hand. It looks like I cut out a piece of construction paper in this picture! It was a nice color, not as brown as I expected....




This was cool—near my window in the evening with no overhead interior nights on. The stone was very bright at the edge and not early as dark in the middle as this photo makes it seem.



I will get better pictures today!

I placed it in the wrap — now to find a solitaire setting for it. A solid (heavier than needed) Fana brand at my local B&M would run $650ish set. I really want this to be more inexpensive—I don’t foresee wearing it more than a couple of times a month.

Wow! That is a really good deal! I really want to stick with the local jeweler for this purchase. I think most of the lightweight stuller settings will be about $400 or $450? Some of the heavier ones are $650-$800 if there is more gold content or details in the design. I’m hoping to get this ordered by mid-sept.

Thank you! I knew I would only wear one if it had an unusual/eye-catching design. I feel like I completely lucked out to find this right before the 50% off sale AND it appears to be a true vintage Retro era piece and not a replica.

In my honeymoon phase, I’ve been wearing it to softball games and volleyball matches. I know I look a little ostentatious, but I just can’t help myself!

Update!! I got the garnet set this month, and I am so pleased with the fit. It is a stuller solstice setting with a low head. The first one is a perspective shot with my new crystal opal pendant.
