Deb and Karl you know how to reach me, I need help with BIL off the deep end.

I pray we get mental help for people. Not more guns. And getting mental help?? Have you tried it?? It's next to impossible.

In an earlier posting I "misspoke" and wrote that a psychiatric facility once wanted to discharge my daughter earlier than she needed and she had to be readmitted. What I meant to write-what actually happened-was that the medical personnel wanted to keep her longer, but that the insurance company wouldn't pay for a longer stay. We were billed for (I believe) two days of the initial stay she was there because the hospital had not discharged her expeditiously enough as it was! We had to fight with the insurance company over those two days later-and I don't know if we won or had to pay for them, either-when she became suicidal again and had to be readmitted through the emergency room with a serious attempt. That's finding it hard to get help from the consumer's side.

I have also found it hard to give help from the provider's side. When I was hired in 2003 at a non-profit agency to do psychotherapy ten hours a week I was told that if I could bring in paying clients to cover the cost of my salary I could have more hours. Unfortunately I was working in a poor city in Connecticut where no one had any money for psychotherapy. If people had insurance at all, it was usually Medicaid or some form of low-paying insurance. The people came in physically sick, often referred by a local hospital which couldn't deal with their emotional problems, but also with housing issues and job issues. Sometimes they would be living with one set of relatives and be about to move in with another set. And I would be asked if I could get $10.00 instead of $5.00 or $5.00 instead of $1.00 for a session in addition to his insurance! Because my agency was dying and no one had had a raise in ten years. (The social workers might be use to it, but the secretaries could go anywhere. There staying there was sheer dedication!)

So, yes, it is hard to get mental health help!!!
