Is this diamond good value?

I'm currently searching for a diamond for an engagement ring. I am setting it in a gold solitaire band, so I am willing to go down on colour quite a bit. I've attached the GIA report, the diamond costs $4900 USD.

It’s inexpensive, but the angles aren’t great, I don’t like that it has inclusions and the table, and additional clouds noted on the cert. it’s on the cusp of deep too so it’s facing up small for the carat weight.
it is cheap? Yes. Is it a good value? Not if you’re looking for an eye clean diamond with good visual performance.

I'm Canadian which vendor would be best for me to use?

Martin Sheffield is in Canada and is a Pricescope-recommended vendor, but all of the recommended vendors can ship to you (but you may need to account for import tax and/or VAT within your budget if you buy from the USA).

You can use the diamond search tool at the top of the forum to compare prices and options.

(Martin is 'USA Certed' in the listings.)

This link will show you the diamonds in the listings under USD5000 and over 1.2ct / M colour / SI1 clarity, which are within the generally-recommended parameters (to get you close to 'super-ideal territory') and with Excellent (<2.0) Holloway Cut Advisor scores:

This one from the listings is very close to your stone, but much (much!) better cut and light performance, and the same diameter (because your stone is a steep/deep stone):

Thanks for all the input, I'm a newbie and looking for the best diamond within my budget for my future wife! I was not aware of HCA before posting this thread.

It is a very useful too for evaluating whether a (Modern Round Brilliant) diamond's angles work together :)

I think you get three? free goes of it (it's under the Tools dropdown at the top of the forum) so using the search tool as already linked means you can sift out stones that have good scores straight away without needing to use it for every one :)

You can stretch the score to mid-2s and still have excellent light return - those stones just need more analysis to make sure they work :) (There is also debate amongst the professionals on here about whether deeper stones with higher scores are preferable - but it gets a bit complex! lol)

my first time seeing a 5.1! definitely a pass. speaking of vendors, there are many that ship internationally. did you checkout whiteflash aca line? it's worth checking it out and it will blow your mind!

Where in Canada are you from ? As recommended by @OoohShiny Martin Sheffield from USA Certed Diamonds is based out of Toronto and can help you find a great stone within your budget. He is a recommended vendor on this forum and has great reviews in the Testimonials section.

What would be the best value out of these 3 diamonds?

They all seem so similar, is there a huge difference between the cuts on the excellent cut, and the true hearts?

Please post the certificates for all 3. From the pics/video I like the 1.31 the best but I want to see the certificates

Is the future wife really gonna be happy with the color diamonds you are considering?

I like the 1.3 the best by far, but it's important that you know your future wife's color tolerance, etc.

It's going to be set in yellow gold/ yellow prongs, I feel like a higher colour diamond will look yellow in that type of setting anyways?

Not always; it’s common use white gold heads and prongs on yellow gold rings to try to avoid the effect you’re describing. That said, if the wearer prefers the warmth of yellow gold a well-cut K can look lovely and plenty bright. I would focus on cut. Some people advise when shopping for J-L diamonds to look for a stone with faint to medium blue fluorescence because it can make the stone appear brighter/whiter. Your mileage may vary.

lol after years here I might be FINALLY able to trust my eye rather than needing cert + pics.

That’s awesome! Careful though, developing that give could be expensive.

BTW, I vote for the 1.31 first, followed by the 1.32 and it’s a no to the 1.23.

Thanks for all the input! Just trying to make an informed purchase :)

Im really starting to pull out my hair here, so many options, what are your opinions on these two?

Newbie here... but from my research I’d pass on the JA stone, the crown angle is a bit shallow and table a bit large. The others are similar to me, and there’s a few others on their site that are also similar to the two you listed, so I will let the pros chime in on that.

the HPD stone would be a great one, not sure if you were looking for something a bit larger or if you saw that one Or what your budget is?

Can't go wrong with WF or HPD

The good thing is they both have awesome upgrade policies so if you ever want to go for a higher color or larger you have that option!

I ended up going with a J from WF, thanks for all the advice everyone!

This is the stone BTW

Do you think I have anything to worry about with the additional clouding that's mentioned in AGS report?

What did WF say about the clouds? Generally that wording is a bit scary for me but I would trust their word

What questions should I ask about the clouding?
