Hi guys.. this is my first time buying a diamond and a newbie in Pricescope. I''ve been reading on alot of forums in Pricescope. I figure you guys have excellent and expert opinions on all round diamonds. What do you think of this diamond with the following specifications:

GIA Specifications

Carat: 0.58
Colour : E
Clarity : IF
Cut : Excellent

Measurements : 5.35 -5.38 x 3.30
Depth : 61.5%
Table : 56%
Crown angle : 34 degree
Crown height : 15%
Pavillion angle : 40.8 degree
Pavillion depth : 43%
Star length : 55%
Lower half : 75%
Gridle: Thin to slightly thick, Faceted
Polish : Excellent
Symmetry : Excellent
Fluorescence : None

This diamond cost me about Singapore dollars $5000. I think its a pretty rare deal considering I''ve visited so many jewellers in Singapore and none of the stores can match this! What do you think of it?

Being a cautious person, I''ve also consulted both HCA and AGA online Diamond analysis. AGA gave me a grade 1A and HCA score 1. I believe I''ve done sufficient research on my part. Now I''m waiting for the diamond to be flew in from New York to my supplier so I can view it with my own eyes.

I know GIA has an issue with rounding up its figures in dimension. I''m also sure it can lead to serious consquences. What are the next few steps or things I should look out for / do when I''m call to receive it? Thank you for your kind contributions.

Regards,
Jack

That seems like an insane amount for such a small stone unless I am missing something here. Let me check...

And here is one that meets all your specs exactly, is BIGGER, and is almost $2000 less. So no, yours isn't that great of a deal.

ETA: Wait, are you not in US dollars here? I need to go find a conversion chart.

ETA1: So while it's not rare, if your $5000 figure was in SD and not USD, then it's perfectly reasonable.

Wow.. thanks for all your speedy replies! I believe all the pricing in these website are in US dollars if I''m not wrong..Singapore dollars $5000 equals to about US$3500.

Just to let you guys know of whats the diamond market like in Singapore. I''ve been searching diamond in Singapore for almost 2 months. I realise that most of the common stores in Singapore have GIA diamond with 2 EX and 1 VG. Only a few stores sells GIA 3 EX diamond. Also, I''ve come across only 2 IF in my 2 months of searching in Singapore. That is also part of the reason why I call it a rare deal in Singapore.

Hi Jack

I live in Singapore too, and i feel that yours is a pretty good deal.
Where did you get your supplier from?
Thanks

(Please excuse this thread jack, but I''m a noob and still learning the controls for this board!)

NeatFreak ~ would you mind sharing a little info on your icon/avatar photo please?

Thanks guys!

Thanks guys!

Hi Coastie,

It''s a 2.15 "asscher" cut sapphire cut by Jeff White that is currently being set as we speak! There will be a thread about it in Show Me The Ring and/or colored stones this weekend or early next week once I receive it!

Why the need for IF?

Why the need for IF?
I think it''s an Asian thing for purity/mind cleanliness.

Well.. actually i''m not really sure if its an asian trend to get an IF.. but personally I feel that my flawless girl deserves a flawless diamond!

I''ve also realised that since asian ladies are less built, a 0.5 - 0.7 carat would be more then enough.

That is really expensive for that diamond.

Really.

Is there a reason you cannot try buying online?

I''m not a diamond expert but I just ran this by a jeweler friend of mine and they were shocked. I could be wrong though.

Hi ByGoneEraBride,

Thanks for your reply. Perhaps you''ve missed out the first few threads. My diamond cost S$5000 which is about US$3500. I''ve tried looking at the diamonds recommended by Neatfreak and Julien but none of the diamond specs matched up to mine. They are cheaper by about $300 and not neccessary have 3 GIA excellent. There is one diamond I saw online which has almost all the same Cs, but the dimension of the cut is horrible! I think it has a HCA score of 3.

I was really hoping to find one diamond that has GIA 3 excellent that can match up to AGA class 1A cut. Since alot of forums mentioned that not all 3 X ex GIA diamonds and 3 X ideal AGS diamonds are gurantee to perform. Matching up with AGA class 1a is the safest bet to go for.

Also, correct me if I''m wrong, GIA latest cert does not show the location of the inclusion. This could pose a big problem if you are taking vvs2 or vs1. I mean the inclusion can be right at the table! Unless you are skilled enough to see the inclusion yourself (which i don''t think i have), going for a better clarity would be a wise choice too.

Anyway, the cert is not everything. To me it is just a basic instrument to filter out the better diamonds. Ultimately you still have to examine the diamond yourself. I was hoping some experts in this forum can give me some pointers to look out for when I receive my diamond.

Whew, jacky! You are really picking at fine points here. Not that anyone should tell you differently, but many of us would say that we'd never see evidence of many of the things you're choosing to be unyielding about. Personally, a couple of pointers:

I feel that my flawless girl deserves a flawless diamond!
I don't doubt you love her, and she may be perfect for you, but NO ONE is flawless and I certainly wouldn't want to have to live up to that standard (and I've been happily married to only one man for 21 years)!

Again, I think most "in the know" would pretty much guarantee you that even if the grade-making inclusion was right at the table, you wouldn't be able to see it in a VS1, let alone a VVS2!

Hi Upgradable,

Thanks for your valuable feedback. I guess you must be more expert than me in diamond choosing. Since I have already paid $200 as deposit for this diamond, I guess I can''t turn back now.

In your personal point of view, what should I continue to look out for when I receive the diamond?

Is it true that the graders only grade the diamond from the top? That means they don''t look at the side for inclusion?
