Is this an Ideal-Scope image? Please can I have your advice on this diamond?

A5939ED7-ADEE-40EB-8869-986675230E89.png Hi,
I’m considering this RB stone with the following stats:-
1.31ct
F/VS1
No fluorescence
Depth 62.4
Table 55
CA 34.9
PA 40.6
It scores 0.9 on HCA. The depth is very slightly out of the ideal range but the table is nice and small so from what I’ve been reading this will make it super sparkly? (Please let me know if I’ve gotten that wrong, I’m on a very steep learning curve).

I’m not sure what impact the girdle thickness will have on performance, it’s medium to slightly thick. I haven’t got my head around girdle thickness at all other than if it’s too thick it can be too heavy?

It’s report says it’s excellent for cut and polish and has very good symmetry.

I’ve asked the vendor for an IS to check for light leakage and they sent me this picture. It’s not the red colour that I’m used to seeing on here but I think I can see the arrows pattern?

If I went for it I’d be completely blowing my budget so am very keen to know your thoughts.

I’m doing my best to learn, this site is such a treasure trove of advice, knowledge, ideas and amazing pics so generously given.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

No this is not an idealscope image, just a straight-on magnified shot of the diamond. I'm Not an expert, but in my limited experience, the crown and pavilion angles are a little bit off of the complementary recommended numbers. The total depth is also outside of the recommended range and as a result of those three factors, and possibly the thick girdle as well, that is why it seems very dark in the center under the table. I'm guessing that you would prefer to see more brightness across the face of the stone. I believe that you will see this dark center in many lighting conditions.

Can the vendor get an idealscope or ASET image? That would be a better way to "see" what's going on. I believe HCA presumes medium girdle.

Is this GIA stone?

Looks like a nice stone but the camera is too close to the diamond.

Numbers are good, symmetry appears pretty good too.

You can tell the camera is too close because even the table reflection is obstructed, particularly with a 40.6 pavilion

Hi ringo865 - I asked for an ideal scope image and this is what they sent.
Yes I thought the depth and girdle were slightly out of ideal range but thought the other angles were within range?
Yes you’re absolutely right when you say that I’d prefer to see more brightness across the face of the stone. I’d love a proper little fireball as have never had anything like this before.
It’s a Tiffany ring so it has its certificate. The vendor says Tiffany only use the best stones etc but whereas before that might have been enough for me, I’ve learnt by reading up on PS that there is much more to it than that and as I’m blowing my budget I want to be sure I’ve done my homework ahead of making any purchase.
I thought IS images were a pretty standard request but I’m guessing if the vendor can’t provide any then this might not be the one for me? What do you think?

Hi gm89uk - it’s a tricky one as I had to ask for an IS image a couple of times before the magnified image pic arrived. I don’t think it shows me what I’d need to see as in like leakage etc (although I have no clue how to “read” the IS image).

I’m just not sure what to do next :wall:

What’s the return policy? You could buy your own idealscope and check for light leakage, assuming there is a generous no questions asked return policy.

I think Tiffany is store credit only.

Hi HappyNewLife - the seller does have a return policy but as I’m in the U.K. I’d have already paid the VAT etc and I don’t think this would be reimbursed if the IS images aren’t as hoped.
This is so tricky, maybe I’d be better off using one of PS’s approved vendors.
I absolutely love your new ring BTW, completely stunning. I bet it sparkles like crazy!
I’m not sure I’d know where to start if I were to choose a diamond and setting, I’d be worried about getting something wrong either in choosing the stone or messing up the setting. I’m still a bit clueless TBH!

Sorry ringo865 I should have said that it’s a preloved Tiffany ring on eBay.
I might have to leave this one as the idea of making an expensive mistake leaves me feeling a bit on the anxious side. I’d be so upset if when I received it it wasn’t as sparkly as I’d hope.
Do you think it’s possible for a novice like myself to successfully pick a diamond and then the setting? I’d never have considered that idea before but after spending time on PS it seems a fairly regular thing to do.

absolutely possible! If you list your budget, wants as far as setting and stone, we can help you out.

By the posting, I think its a pre-owned Tiffany ring being sold on Ebay. So, I'd guess the return policy would be dictated by the seller.

You could likely get a superideal diamond with your budget, since Tiffany comes with a premium price. If you want, share what you’re looking for an we can look for you. No return policy would turn me off personally.

Hi farrahlyn - ah that’s fantastic thank you. I’ll start narrowing down exactly what I’m looking for.

Hi rockysalamander- yes it’s a pre-owned Tiffany on eBay. The seller has a lot of various high value pieces and excellent feedback as well as offering a return window of 30 days but ........ (oh why is there always a but!), the sticking point for me is that I’m in the UK so I’d be paying the VAT etc and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t get that back if I returned it to the seller for whatever reason. This is why I’m a touch nervous about pulling the trigger.

Hi HappyNewLife - the more I’m reading up about superideals the more I’m starting to want one! I’m very grateful for the kind offers of help. I’ll start narrowing down exactly what I’m after for both the stone and setting.
