Hi Guys,

I just want to ask for your opinions on this type of spread diamond. It appears to be a 60/60 cut, crown angle is 32 degrees - which is quite far from ideal - and some people said less than 32 degrees is not ideal. Will the durability be affected? Will this stone look lifeless and lack the fire and sparkle although GIA grades it as excellent? HCA score is 1.5.
Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Very Good
Spread
or diameter for weight Excellent
Total Visual Performance 1.5 - Excellent
within BIC range

RD will explain about the 60/60 cut.

From the numbers it looks like that diamond falls in the Brilliant Ideal Cut category - see this link here for further info: http://www.diamond-cut.com.au/23_bicfic.htm - basically, BICs have the highest light return (brilliance) and greatest spread, FICs (Fiery Ideal Cuts) have more fire but with their smaller tables and greater depths face up smaller, and TICs (Tolkowsky Ideal Cuts) have a balance of brilliance and fire...

By no means should that diamond appear lifeless or lack sparkle, but it likely exhibits slightly less fire and slightly more brilliance as compared to a FIC or TIC diamond.

Diamonds like that just have a small, fairly flat crown and I don't like the appearance. They may be okay performers, but I would not buy a diamond with those measurements because there are others that are better overall, in my opinion. I try to find a crown angle between 34-35 and a table of 54-58% max.
