Is this a good ring?

Hi all,

Thank you so much for your suggestions, they are so much appreciated! :)

@farrahlyn , @mrs-b From the ones you've sent , these are the ones I like:

https://www.bluenile.com/build-your...ing_21019?elem=img&track=product&vtype=sample

@lalala the reason why I like them is because the ring itself on the side stones has detail (those tiny dots) and when you look at it on the side, it also has details. Kind of like a victorian staircase almost, loads of detail. For me that is important because it gives it character, mixed with that classic, timeless yet classy look I am after.

@Snowdrop13 & @Austina good shout on the 20% VAT, this will reduce my budget drastically :(
@metall I'm not sure what that means, I'm afraid but I know that I definitely don't want a colored diamond.

How would I go about choosing just a diamond if I choose the band separately?
Any chance I find a ring like the ones I've mentioned in the UK?

Thanks again guys, you are all awesome! So grateful xx

Blue Nile has a UK site, too, and honestly it’s probably easier to get the stone and the setting in the same place. The prices on the UK site are all including VAT.

@Snowdrop13 omg yes I just found their UK website! Thank you! The one I liked is not available here but I've found some nice ones but need to have a closer look.

I found this one which I am surprised I did because it has 3 pieces which is something I've never really liked.
So this price already includes the stones or I need to choose them and add that to the final price?

@sasilva123 - links to Blue Nile just take you to the generic front page. Can you pls tell us the name of the BN ring you like? We'll look it up by its title.

@mrs-b it's called Trio Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring in 14k White Gold. It's listed for £792.00 (setting price). Not sure what they mean by setting price though. Does it mean it does not include the stone?

PS - if you're on a desktop computer, click Ctrl and it will take you to the link posted (didn't knew that either) :)

Yes Sofia, it means that’s the price for the settings, which include the diamonds in the setting, but not the centre diamond.

Based on your budget, I’d suggest looking at SI grade diamonds and I colour to get the biggest stone you can.

Thank you @Austina , I will have a look at that and keep that in mind :)

Do you know what would be the best type of diamond shape for this type? Round?

@Austina I don't have a trained eye if that makes sense... Just looks like a sparkly rock , I wouldn't know if it's a good one or not or even shiny enough lol

I was editing my post to add the images. The diamond I’m suggesting scores well when run through the HCA tool.

I’m sure others will be along with suggestions, mines just a starting point.

That looks very pretty :) I was scrolling through the comments and everyone said it's lovely :)

Weird, as I wasn't expecting to like a ring with more than 1 central piece/stone (apologies if my terminology is incorrect Lol)

I've send it over to my boyfriend to see what he says :)

If you’re thinking this will be your one and only ring, the diamonds on the shoulders being channel set would be a good choice. It’ll protect them during every day wear and tear.

speaking of wear and tear. So I can use this ring everyday for years? Do the dishes, clean the house, go to work, shower and wash my hair and it will still be ok, right?

Yes, it should hold up. Of course you'll want to clean your ring/diamond regularly. A lot of people take their rings off to sleep, I don't. I only take mine off to shower and when I'm handling raw meat/cooking.

Obviously you'll do what suits you best, but I would STRONGLY advise against going the three stone route (3 larger stones in the middle instead of just one) if you buy a pre-made setting, like from Blue Nile. If the center stone you choose is not large enough to 'fill up' the setting, you'll end up with gaps either side of it, and it makes it look odd. These settings are pre-made, they're not made to fit your specific stone, so if your stone doesn't fit, there's nothing they do which will make it look like it does, and the biggest problem with a 3-stone is if your center stone is too small. I *think* their smallest setting is for a .5 stone, and I remember seeing this back when they used to show photos of all the rings in that style that people had currently bought, and even with a .5ct center stone, you could still see down between the center stone and the side stones. It didn't look great.

@sasilva123 - you can wear your ring all the time, but you'll need to clean it most days. A ring has lots of nooks and crannies, and traps dirt and germs very easily. They also look dull after wearing them for a day or so if they're not cleaned. You can't put on hand cream while wearing it, or handle anything that could get caught in the ring, and the sort of style you're talking about will get dull very easily, due to its level of detail. They can even start to smell (I cleaned a lady's earrings a month or so ago which she wore every day, never cleaned, and smelt quite obviously bad) - so cleaning is not something you want to skimp on. As well as buying a style you like, you also have to get a style which suits the way you live.

Good luck on your journey - I hope you get something you love.

Good food for though there @mrs-b , thank you for that.

I work in a office and I do tend to go to the gym or workout at home min 3x a week. I didn't knew that about the stone fitting in the ring, I thought that they would just make it fit somehow.

Also - this may sound stupid - but do I clean a ring?! Do I take it to a jewelers shop? How often is recommended?

Thanks again.
Sofia

@farrahlyn thank you. Considering what mrs-b said, do you reckon that would fit?

Is the ring on your photo your own ring? It's beautiful :)

the US site has some pictures of that setting with a .43ct stone, i captured a picture of it. You can clearly see the gap between the side stones. personally that would bug me but again, it's YOUR ring. I'd probably go for one of the vintage solitaire styles you liked.

my personal favorite would be this one

again, i went on the US site and found the setting with a stone size you're looking at. the tapering near the stone is especially flattering i think.

EDITED to add: Yes, thank you! That is my ring in my profile picture.

The tapered ring (hand engraved micropave setting) that farrahlyn posted is beautiful!! I agree that the tapered shoulders is flattering especially with a smaller center stone.

Everyone here can find you a great center diamond within your budget and if you're going with BlueNile, it would be very easy to have the entire ring (center diamond and setting) done at once. Maybe you could link your top 3 settings and we can see what's left of your budget for the center stone =)2.

I love that second one posted by @farrahlyn  but what I love doesn't matter, YOU need to love it!

To clean your ring you can just use Dawn dish soap, warm water and a soft toothbrush. You can also get jewelry cleaner. I personally use dish soap or Connoisseurs jewelry cleaner (the kind for diamonds). I clean mine a few times a week. You can also take it to a jewelry store to have it cleaned which I do about 2x's a year.

Any updates, OP?
