Or should we keep looking? It is at a local jeweler (the most popular jeweler in our area) and although I would prefer to buy online, I have to know if I would be passing up a good deal on a nice diamond. It looks beautiful to me in the store, but I know those lights can be deceiving.

This is what is on the Sarin report:

Shape: Round
Est. Wt: 2.007
Diameter: (8.14mm-8.26mm)8.20mm
Table: 58%
Crown: 33.5 degrees
Crown height: 13.5%
Pavilion: 41.0 degrees
Pavilion depth: 43.5%
Star length: 50%
Lower halves: 80%
Girdle thickness: 3.0%
Girdle: thn-stk
Culet size: 0.4% none/very small/small
total depth: 60.2%
Est. GIA cut: Excellent

Price: $9080.00

I originally thought that there was a GIA cert since this printed Sarin report says GIA at the top. I later realized that there may not be a GIA cert and that all these printed reports say that at the top

. So I don't have confirmation that this is a GIA certed diamond, but I will check on that tomorrow.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I forgot a few important things....color is I and it is an eye clean SI2.

Welcome to pricescope! I am sure you will get alot of suggestions here.

What color is it? Good to check on if it is GIA cert because that will help determine alot of things. Some other grading labs are very soft in their grading and not very accurate. If it is not certed, how did they grade the color? Did they use instruments or by comparing to master stones or both?

As for getting a deal, from my limiited experience online buying is always the better deal. Especially with the vendors that frequent this forum.

This diamond gets a 1.1 on the HCA, so it has a lot of potential. Have you used the price comparison tool on this website (look for "Pricescope your diamond" at the top) to compare pricing?

Okay, I did the price comparison and it seems to be a great deal. But that leads me to believe that something must be up -- probably not a GIA cert, huh?

Similar spec diamonds and even some with worse specs are priced 4 thousand higher on blue nile... that raises alot of red flags in regards to accuracy of color etc... I would not want to take the chance. If the jeweler offers a 2 week or so return policy get it independently appraised for sure to see if it checks out (costs around 100 dollars). It does not seem to be graded by a major lab so all because it says I color does not mean it really is.... I would personally avoid this stone. Maybe it has been clarity enhanced etc...

I did specifically ask if it had been clarity enhanced and was told that it had not been. I know that this jeweler also sells Yehuda diamonds, but they are pretty upfront about the Yehudas.

I guess the only thing to do is ask for the certification. I will do that tomorrow.

I guess the next question is....even if it doesn''t have a GIA cert and I think it is a beautiful stone, should I still avoid it, in your opinion? I would like to see the diamond under different lighting than the store lighting to see if I still love it then. Maybe I will do that tomorrow.

Ask for a return policy in writing and get it independently appraised for sure if you really want to get the stone. Or get something that says the sale is contingent on the independent appraisal from an appraiser of your choice, not theirs.....You will get an honest opinion and the appraiser will tell you the good and the bad without being biased... Do all of this BEFORE you get it set! Or they will say the sale is final. Also, it is harder to determine color on a set stone so make sure it is loose. Go to the resource tab up top and find one in your area. This stone has too many red flags to just trust the opinion of the jeweler. I would not be surprised if the stone is actually a lower color.... As for seeing the stone, compare it to other stones at the same time. All diamonds will look good until you see it against an ideal cut stone... especially in everyday lighting! jeweler lighting is not realistic and is really a waste of time in determining how nice a stone is in my opinion. You are in the process of buying a very special stone and I would be very careful about falling into pressure buying on such a purchase. Many people fall into this trap and you now have the opportunity to avoid it by taking certain precautions. Best of luck and if it is is too good to be true, it probably is.... Please let us know how it goes.

IMO pass on this stone. something ain''t right if a 2 ct stone doesn''t come with a lab report.

Let us know if the diamond has a lab report and if so which one, then we can go from there.

That seems a little inexpensive for a 2 ct. stone. If it seems to good to be true...

Well, we decided not to even go back to look at this diamond. Maybe a good decision, maybe not -- but it is done now!

We have been looking for a loooong time, and have had excellent cooperation from PS vendors so far, so we decided to stick with the original plan and buy online.

Hopefully, the search will end soon, as I am getting impatient after five years

Thanks for your help on this stone and for keeping me from doing something I would most certainly regret.
