Is this a diamond or moissanite ring? What do you think?

I'm new here, so I wasn't sure where to post this while adhering to the rules. :) I'm curious what other people think and of course I will tell you later why I'm asking. Thank you!IMG_9660.jpegIMG_9647.jpegFullSizeRender-2.jpeg

You need a local appraiser.
Alternatively have a jeweler check it for you.

I know what it is, I'm just curious what people would think it is just by looking at it.

Moissanite.

If priced as a moissanite, that's almost certainly what it is.
If prices as a diamond, that's almost certainly what it is.

Photos are 100% worthless, for deciding.
100% Worthless.

Take it to an independent professional appraiser (who does not buy or sell) whom you have to pay to look at it and make their call and putting it in writing and signing the paper, putting their career on the line.
Better yet, remove it from the setting and ship it to GIA or AGS and pay for a proper grading report, for the most definitive unbiased independent answer possible.

Jewelers who buy and sell are not independent; some might tell you it's mois and offer to buy it, knowing it's a real diamond.

Does that rally happen Kenny ?

Since you are asking my guess is moissanite. All that matters is you are pleased with the ring and paid for it what you think is a fair price. Enjoy your lovely ring in health and happiness.

Based on the last picture I would say it’s a moissanite.

Can't tell based on photos alone.

DK :))

Thank you for the replies. It's actually a diamond.

The reason I was asking is because I walked into a store yesterday and in that particular light it had so much fire it looked "fake", almost like my moissanite. (I have other diamond rings, but none of them ever looked like that) It was a little concerning, considering that this time I spent time on picking a 3 EX diamond with almost perfect numbers everywhere. The HCA score is 3.6 so it's not perfect :D

I was googling this yesterday and that's how I found this forum, others have voiced similar concerns before, but the last thread was over a year old. Sorry I probably should have just said straight up what I was thinking instead of asking like this.

On the last photo I think that's actually a shadow of my giant head or my black phone I was taking the photo with, as soon as I turned it towards my white shirt, that darkness went away, but that also made me think.. maybe it looks fake...

This thread is disappointing.

Worth mentioning that I’m new to RBCs. All my other jewelry are a different cut, I wear a pear cut ring most of the time and I don’t think that ever “turned darker” because it reflected things around it. I thought it was odd

Well diamond or moissanite, it is a pretty ring and looks great on you, it looks really nice paired with the diamond band. Wear it in good health and happiness.

Rounds behave very differently from other shape cuts, plus most high overhead store lighting just make RBs come alive. Perhaps this is what you are noticing.

Maybe this is why new users don’t continue to post or are even too scared to ask a question. How much time out of your day was really wasted by replying if it was a moissy or a diamond? OP just had some concerns and wanted to know if anybody could discern the difference without any prior information. Yes, she could have divulged some info so that we could make a proper assessment but is it really that big of a deal that she needs to be bullied?

@Evangeline77, it’s a beautiful ring. I hope you come back and share some more pictures and stats.

Thank you, I appreciate your comment! I actually tried deleting my post but I couldn’t figure out how to do that on my phone. But then again we are on the internet, this happens everywhere. I’ve seen much worse, so I wasn’t too bothered, I just figured I’m obviously on the wrong forum if others get annoyed with me this easily lol

Don't get discouraged, so maybe some got annoyed by the approach, it's okay. IMO you should stick around and make a post in SMTB about your ring, we love to see all the pretty sparkles.

ETA: SMTB is "Show Me The Bling"

Yes, agree.

There is another forum with the name of bee in it that I sometimes view as an unregistered user and if you come from that forum, it's a very different tone for jewelry. People here want the stats, details and generally have a very different view point on stones and jewelry than they do on that site, even though I know there are some cross users. Posts like guess the carat weight or stats or does this look real or fake probably aren't going to be received like they would there- but each forum has a different tone, that's all.

Plus one for a post on your ring in the SMTB section!

The reason I answered the way I did is this could lead to someone getting upset if it was not a game to the person asking.
That has happened, someone getting extremely upset because they thought they got riped off when they did not just because of a thread like this one.

I read it as such as well, fyi.

I understand. I know exactly what I was buying and it looked all nice while it was a loose diamond, but once it was in the setting and under certain lights, it started looking a lot like a moissanite.
Then I started googling to see if this is normal and found this thread:

That’s how my post ended up here :)

I find this thread disappointing because here we have a new poster who did not receive a warm welcome and will probably not be posting again. I hope she changes her mind, do we really want people to view PS as a fraternity where newbies get hazed?

I agree @YadaYadaYada. I was going to post something similar but I was afraid I'd be called a net nanny.

I normally don't say anything because I don't want to get dragged into drama but this is ridiculous, especially one comment in particular to the effect of "now that you've wasted our time do you feel better know?" maybe not the exact words but close and that comment was edited but she probably still saw it. Hateful and nasty and totally uncalled for. I just don't understand it.

moissanite is sold the way it is because it is a reasonable approximation of diamond at a distace so its no suprise they look simular at times.

Welcome to PS `sorry for the rough start.

I didn't post for years. It was intimidating!
