Is the Linz cut from Bailey Banks Biddle really unique?

Or is it just a modified radiant/cushion cut? They just seem very similar... Thanks for any opinions/inputs.

The Linz is a patented cut exclusive to Zales. Whether it's unique depends on how picky you are--a lot of these new cuts are almost indistinguishable except to an expert.




(edited to add: BB&B is a subsidiary of Zales.)

It is rather easy to put up a new cut, but very hard to make it impress and last: I guess this explains why the vast majority of diamonds sold are round, most of others square and the rest 'interesting' - even among the classic shapes.

I would add that differences in facet pattern (as oposed to shape) are not terribly visible in smaller stones, starting to make an impact only seriously above 1 ct. The worst about this is that slight "differences" usually make for a serious price premium. Up to you to judge what a few extra facets are worth
