Is it worth paying for a WhiteFlash ACA certificate?

WF brought in a diamond to match an in-house ACA stone. The stone is good enough to receive their ACA designation. If I want to make it official, I can pay $110 for shipping and cert updating.

Is that reasonable or a waste of money?

I like the idea of both earrings being ACA designated, but then again, does that really matter?

does it already have a cert? if it already has an AGS or GIA then I wouldn''t pay for another cert, but if it doesn''t come with one, I would have it certed... make sense?

It has been graded by AGS.

then nah- you already have a cert. I''d be just fine with that.

It''s a brand and you''re paying for the label. If the label cost $11 you might say yes. If the label cost $1100 I''m guessing you''d say no. Ask yourself what price would you be willing to pay to have this label for this diamond. What is it worth to you? If what it is worth to you is more than what they''re asking then pay it. If it is less than what they are asking then don''t pay it. Just figure out what it is worth to you.

I would say it is worth somewhere between $11 and $1100. :)

$110 is right around the point where I question if I''m being frivolous with my money. Not low enough to say sure, not high enough to say forget it...

I would personally get the ACA designation. It helps for insurance purposes because they will then need to replace with a "superideal" stones. Correct me if I am wrong, but ACA diamond earrings can be upgraded with whiteflash in the future where as other diamonds cannot.

You say "shipping" and cert. If true, the shipping alone is around $75 so aren''t you really only paying around $35 for the cert.?

ACA diamonds are fully upgradable...so if you ever plan on upgrading I would get the cert. unless WF will allow you to upgrade without it?

Any diamond Whiteflash recommends is upgradeable, it doesn't have to be ACA. Here is their policy:

No, it doesn''t matter. If you have an AGS0 hearts and arrows stone, the insurance will have to replace an AGS0 hearts and arrows stone. So the ACA designation really doesn''t make any difference, IMO.

The ACA designation, along with a properly written appraisal is a way of forcing the replacement through Whiteflash in the case of a loss. It has to do with defining 'like kind and quality'. The fee is reasonable but whether this is worth $110 and a slight delay to you is up to you. For many people, yes it is. Presumably one of they things they need to do is have the ACA girdle inscription put on and this requires the stone to be unmounted if AGSL is going to be doing it so you are wise to be considering this issue before it’s set.

Note: Check with your insurance company about how they replace ‘branded’ merchandise if this is going to be an important issue to you. They don’t all handle this situation in the same way. It's the contract with the carrier that will rule the day, not what I or Whiteflash have to say.

Looks like they changed the trade in criteria. They only allowed ACAs back in november 2008 for rings, earrings etc...

Look, if it really is right at about the cutoff point of too high and too low for you then I suggest the following. 1) Take a coin. 2) Heads you buy it tails you don't buy it. 3) Ask yourself can you accept the decision as final if it comes up heads, if you can then next step. 4) Ask yourself can you accept the decision as final if it comes up tails, if you can then next step. 5) Flip the coin.

Now, if you couldn't accept not buying it or you couldn't accept buying it then you really have already made up your answer. If you couldn't accept both then go to step 5.

Thanks for the feedback!

Since this is a 15th wedding anniversary gift, I decided to get it. I figured it just made for a nicer gift if all the paperwork showed the same thing and I wasn''t caught trying to save a buck or a hundred.

So what you''re really trying to say is the coin landed heads

I don''t think so?

I purchased my pear in early 2008 and anything that was GIA certed that they sold, they would allow trade ins.
