I am getting engaged in vegas in two weeks. Going to do it outside of the Bellagio fountain show. i bought a vatche royal x prong with the princess cut channel diamonds. I got it in 950 Platinum. My question is: Is the .60ct F/VS2 going to be a big enough diamond? It''s a superbcert. It''s just seems so small outside of the ring setting. I just sent it out to be set and am pesimistic about how it will look in the ring. I don''t want it to be too small. people have told me because it is platinum, vatche, a superbcert diamond with gooc 4c''s quality it will be perfect. Not to mention the additional .25ct in the channel cuts. Did I do good? Or is it too small? Please answer in your own opinions and not what my GF would think...
 
A great quality, sparkling diamond in a beautiful setting such as the one you picked out will be perfect- it is not too small at all. My sister has a similar ring and her stone is .50 and I think it looks MUCH larger due to the beautiful setting it is in. Your gf will love it, nice job!

Also, I should note that in my opinion the stone always looks considerably smaller on its own than in the actual setting- I think you will be surprised!

That''s impossible to answer. There are some women who would prefer an ugly, huge stone over a gorgeous smaller stone, while others are just the opposite. Also, a .60 might look large on someone with teeny hands and be dwarfed on someone with really long or really wide fingers. In a metropolitan area a .60 might be considered on the small side, while in some other areas a .60 may be on the large side. If your circle of friends is older a .60 might be small, while if you''re all in your early 20s it might be large.

Also, some women really won''t care as long as they get a proposal from the man they love.

That said, in the real world a diamond WILL look much larger once it''s set in a ring than when it''s loose. MUCH bigger.
 
Well, since I am a size girl (and since you asked!) - I would gladly compromise color and clarity (but never cut) for SIZE, baby, SIZE!!!

Have you looked at what the same money will buy you in lower color/clarity stones? You might be amazed at how white, eye-clean (and drop-dead GORGEOUS!

) carefully chosen I, J, or even K stones can be!

ETA: OOOPS, just re-read your post a little more carefully, and I see you already bought the stone. Well, if it's a done deal, then my advice would be to stop second-guessing yourself and just try to relax. It sounds like a GORGEOUS diamond! Congratulations!
 
Sort of late to look back - you already bought the stone. I think it sounds like a lovely stone and a great setting. Don''t forget to post lots of pics after you propose!

Did you have a conversation with your gf about what her expectations are? Some women think spending a lot of money on a ring is foolish. I know quite a few of my friends would rather buy new hardwood floors or renovate the kitchen than wear a larger diamond.

Thank you for all of the responses. I have about 12 days before we leave for Vegas. I am going to do it at an outdoor restaurant overlooking the fountain show. The confidence factor, knowing the ring is not going to be just some ordinary ring will help me when I do it. Anyone familiar with Vatche and the Superbcert Diamonds? I have read thier testimonials...just curious if anyone here can fill me in on thier quality. Asking her will be the easy question...I still don''t know how to approach her dad to ask him for his daughters hand... Again, thanks for all of the advice...the more th ebetter.

I have a Vatche setting (but not the royal x-prong) and love it. I think it is of superb quality and workmanship. I can't speak to SuperbCert diamonds, as I am an Asscher owner.

What do you mean by not "just some ordinary ring"? If it's the one you chose for her with love, then of course it's not "ordinary"!
 
well let us know how she likes it. I def understand your fear though. i just bought a .61ct with no side stones at all, and I am somewhat terrified:P I think it will work out for you though. I think with your additional sidestones it will cause for a pretty nice spread of white light return over her finger and a nice center focus of fire, should look pretty good and be enough to keep but the wealthiest or most demanding of women content for the proposal.

and I def understand what you mean when you say it is so small when it is loose...ahhh, but I have a big suspicion from a previous .61ct I had set with no side stones as well that you are going to be VERY pleased when it arrives. Obviously it is one of those things that can always be bigger, but it should be fantastic I think--and I have seen them both loose and set in the past weeks.
 
Hi John. I love your idea to propose by the Bellagio fountain show. The ring you picked out sounds wonderful. My ering is .53 ideal cut, E, VS1 and I absolutely love it. I think your ring will turn out perfect and be gorgeous. We''ll be anxious to hear how your trip to Vegas went and to see pictures of the finished product.
 
correction: the band is .40 additional ct. so total wieght between both will be 1.25ct.
 
Don''t worry John! I think it will look fantastic. I love the setting you chose, it''s beautiful. It will be a very romantic night to remember. The lights, the fountains, Vegas..... I got proposed to on a windy jetty in winter in the dark with a .3ct. It took all of 5 minutes, we were freezing! I wouldn''t change anything about that night for anything.

Workinghard I read on some magazine that average Japanese ering is about 0.3 to 0.5 CT, so I think you are totally fine!
 
I think it will be beautiful! Those pix were gorgeous!

And though I am definitely a size girl myself, I would much rather have had a smaller stone of good cut & clarity than a huge one filled with crap and poorly made! If my FI had surprised me, tho, I would have been happy with whatever he chose, because he was choosing to propose to me! That''s the most important thing, so don''t forget that!

And don''t think of it as asking for your GF''s father''s permission or "her" hand...just ask for his and her mom''s blessing...that should make it more palatable to you!

This is a sample of the ring. Obviously a bigger center stone than my .60ct. But the good news is, when I buy the matching band....it is the exact ring without the center stone...the channel diamond go 3/4 of the way around. It will be an additional .70ct.

) I think it will be fabulous anyway, especially if she likes side stones like that. And hey, as long as we have enough to do what we need to get done now, we will have the rest of our lives to improve on anything that we didn't get perfect in the doing, enabling us to really get it done later.

I just know she has one somewhat...loose friend...who demands expensive jewelry... i am afraid she is going to show me up pretty big time pretty soon. Worry about picking the right girl. I know some women are into the ring and what it looks like, how big, etc... But you marry the person, not the diamond. Can''t sell a loved one (last I checked)...

Congratulations. Sounds like a well thought out engagement, and to me that''s more than the ring. The attention and spoiling is all part of making that moment special. Maybe some champagne waiting in the wings? If it''s public, see if you can have a stranger or friend span a picture or video tape the proposal for her to replay maybe?

I definitely have the right girl. And I know she will like the ring, regardless. But I feel it will be so much more rewarding, and my time and thought will have paid off if I nail it. And she can''t stop showing it off and looking at it.

I agree, if you have the right girl, it is the right ring! I''m sure it will be amazing and very sparkly. I have a vatche setting and it really is wondeful quality. No worries there.
 
Yes, I have heard great thing about Vatche as well. Everytime I looked up Platinum engagement rings...they came up. The only thing I have not seen outside of excel diamonds, and it''s own website was the superbcert diamond. It looked amazing, but I''m no expert. The people at Excel diamonds are great to work with. I just have to trust that they will have the ring to me by July 31st...I lieave for Vegas Aug. 1st.
 
Honestly, if she is going to judge you for your ering purchase because it's "not big enough", you might want to reconsider your offer!!!

She should be so thrilled by the engagement that it shouldn't matter what size it is IMO. And you did a great job picking a stone, be proud!

I don''t think you have anything to worry about! 0.6 is a great size (though I''m baised; mine is 0.6) and the setting will totally set off the stone. Relax! Have fun! Congrats!

You have planned a wonderful, romantic proposal with a gorgeous stone and setting.

12 years ago, my husband proposed on the pier where he first said he loved me. I am still wearing the half-carat (.51 D SI2) RB he gave me that day. I have never thought gee, if only my diamond had been bigger. But I have often thought about that moment when he got down on one knee on that pier and asked me to be his wife.
