A few weeks ago I contacted Whiteflash about setting a marquise I already had. (they were great) It was going to take several weeks so I decided not to wait and went to Jared's in Houston.

Big mistake! I ended up returning the setting because the diamond setter damaged the mill grain around one of the surprise diamonds. Jared offered to order me a new ring but it would take 3 to 6 months to get it in.

Here is the kicker I was told loudly by the diamond manager in front of other customers and staff that I was picky, and minor errors in a ring are not flaws and that I was costing them money by making them re-order and re-set my stone.

At that point I got a refund and e-mailed WhiteFlash this morning and hopefully will start a new setting next week.

when i saw your title, unfortuantely my first thought was ''yes it is''

sorry you had to endure that unpleasantness

i hope you get all you are looking for with your custom setting. best of luck to you!

Indeed, I think we''ve all been there.

A couple of years ago, I bought a ring at an estate /antique jewlery boutique.
I asked about their return policy and stated that it was to be a wedding band that I wouldn''t even start wearing for a while.
I was told I could return it for a store exchange within 6 months.

Well, 2 months later (I had still never worn the ring!) I did find something I liked better somewhere else. I went back and asked for a store credit.

The women in that store just about froze me out of there. As I looked through bracelets, necklaces, etc to select new jewelry, they tried to rush me and gave zero feedback on anything I tried on, no information like, this is "estate'' vs "antique".
They just wanted me OUT OF THERE!

To add insult, there was a 25% off sale going on at the time. They said my purchases did not qualify for the sale price, I had to pay full price. (I had previouly paid cash for the ring).

Well, I stay away from there now.

They don''t like me and I don''t like them.

If you want for "all sales are final" then just say so! Don''t have an exchange policy you don''t wish to honor!

Design problems are not a flaw- HUh??

Regarding the antique store, my husband thinks its very funny I was banned from Blue Nile.

I bought earrings from them and they were set crooked. So I returned for them to reset. And again they were crooked. so retured a second time to reset. And I got an email from them that they would not reset and they were refunding my money and banning me from purchasing from them again because I was too difficult to satisfy!

I advice everyone I know to stay away from Blue Nile after that!
