After viewing my small collection thru the IS and getting interesting results I asked Gary aka diamondexpert who I bought them from to snap some pictures for posting here.

He responded with some IS and aset pictures.
They work well on lighter colored goods.

Conclusion:
Concave cutting does produce some bright stones.
The IS and ASET can be used with light colored stones.

Very interesting. I have not seen much on cut analysis on colored stones. Another tool for us? Great!

Hi Strm,

Nice pictures... I too have attempted to look at some colored stones via the IS (in particular a light blue/violet sapphire). However I am not sure that the IS is appropriate as per CutNut''s statment on this thread. Does the RI of the stone HAVE to be 2 or above? Hopefully someone can answer that definitively.

Topaz RI=1.61-1.64 and it works fine on mine.
It shows what my eyes see in direct lighting.

it is also kicken for finding windows in any stone.
The pink isnt visible on a amethyst but the window is real apparent.
the hardest thing is getting it lined up it is a lot more intolerant to tilt on colored gemstones.

it would show windows if present but think the good ones would be too dark for it to work well and can see the windows with your eyes.
