There have been two threads here on the subject:

Has anyone persued this any further? I am interested in having a Iridium ring made for myself. Nothing fancy, just a simple mens band. I would think it could be melted into a mold, as iridium is brittle when worked. Although a problem could arise in that Iridium has a substantially higher melting temperature compared to platnum.

I''m surprised this hasn''t been done before, as Iridium is commonly alloyed with planum at concentrations of 10%. I would think it would be easy to adjust the ratios.I am no expert, but I would think the Ideal mixture might be 90% iridium and 10% platnum as someone suggests in the first thread.

Has anyone done anything further with iridium?

Elliot

when we do lost wax casting we use a very large amount of molten metal and centrifugal force or vacuum pressure to force the melt into the space of the mold. It might be that you need 200grams to make a 5 gram ring.
The casting method you describe is not used to my knowledge in jewellery making.

Same thing - you would need to outlay a lot of money to make a small ring and then refine and sell back the left-overs - it might be a $10,000 outlay with a $3,000 cost. Uness an entrepuenr sees it as a marketable option - you are unlikley to find anyone to make your ring for you.
