Hello! New to the forum but not new to an insane covetousness for pearls. I posted these already in the 'Show Us' thread but I'll do so again here, just in case. These are my new Natural Blue Akoya 9mm studs from PP and the 15mm Tahitian pendant I got from FF back in the spring. I collect large, uniquely coloured pearls, as well as slowly acquiring 124mm+ South Seas (in white and golden and all shades in between) for a necklace one day. Am also in the process of acquiring a 33 inch necklace of the faaaab metallic freshies from PP.

Here are pics of the Mali garnet I just got from Finewatergems. There is only one but I am open to the idea of earrings, whilst continuing to look for a matching one. Pics of the garnet and pics of the earring design I like:

I need advice on what pearl(s) to match the garnet with. I like colourful and am not afraid of combining colours. Right now I'm loving the idea of a deep lavender freshie with this garnet. Also loving the idea of a golden SS. Longer dingle dangle earrings are also an idea I am open to. Thoughts? (if I can't find a matching garnet, this could be a pendant...).

OOh great Ideas. Honestly, I think you are on the right track as the first thought that came to my head is some golden south seas or lavender/gold/plum freshies! I think the freshies will be a lovely and colorful contrast!

Re: Intro + pics + request for help on designing some earrin

I second the lavender - a pale shade, that doesn't overpower the green, would be a very complementary look

Who says 2 earrings have to match exactly? :?:

Find another gem in the same tone (medium to light) but a different color like blue. A natural not radiated topaz or aquamarine would be light enough. Then what if you put the stones in stud earring settings, and set the pearls as dangles that will work with the earrings or as separate pendants?

You would have 2 stones in "ocean" tones, then the pearls. To keep from overwhelming the light stones, I would pick something light, not a dark tahitian. If you have golden pearls or white baroque pearls, that would be great! Freshies with a green or blue overtone would be awesome. I think either white gold or yellow gold would work.

You could name the pair "Gift from the Sea"! :appl:

I love the ideas! iLander, I am going to do exactly what you suggested re: making them into dangles, and finding another, not necessarily exactly the same colour, stone. I think I'm going to go for pale lavender pearls as well. I now need to find someone to do this for me. Can you all recommend anyone?

I think you would like DanielM on etsy. He's not expensive, he can do claw prongs and you get CAD drawings so you can see it before it's done.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/danielmjewelry Lot's of PSers use him.

If I were you I would ask Jerry to cut you a stone. He's VERY skilled and QUICK. I asked him to cut a stone and I had it in my hand in ONE WEEK! I've tried using other cutters, but it can take forever to get their attention and months to get a stone done. I don't have that kind of patience! Here's a thread on the stone he did for me.

For other pearl possibilities, try Sarah. She has stuff that's not on her site, but she will email pix. She drills the pearls herself, so you can get half-drilled for a really finished look. I have been lusting after the glowing purple kasumi (read the section on her site about those!) pair for months! I think kasumi pearls, because of their rarity, are a great investment.

There is no reason you can't get this done by Xmas! :appl:

Thank you, iLander! You just saved me so much research time I feel slightly guilty. :D

Don't feel guilty, my DH says I love telling people what to do!

I spent a lot of time on the colored stones thread and tried to get some projects done, and dealt with a lot of people. I found these particular guys to be the most efficient and responsive. All the cutters have little peculiarities and some of the setters seem to think if they touch a piece of jewelry they should be paid big $$$. I don't have that kind of money/time/patience to deal with them.

When you contact these guys, be sure to mention PS, then they have a context for you (picky prosumer, I better pay close attention).

Thank you, HHPmom! :wavey: Very nice of you to say. It's my going-out-to-eat ring. :praise:

Jerry does AMAZING work, I have to say. He will also cut any rough that you supply him (most cutters won't) and he does stone repairs and recuts, if you ever need that type of thing, just as an FYI.
