Intimidated by a cushion cut???

So my big anniversary E ring upgrade is coming. I have worn a 3 stone round diamond ring for 20 years. My current ring - center is 1.3 with .55 on each side. I am envisioning a 2-2.5 size solitaire. I just want one big diamond. I am between round and cushion. Here’s the thing, I can shop and know the specs and ideal deets for a round... bUT I am so out of my element with a cushion! I don’t like the crushed ice look and would like a vintage stone. I am so intimated by the search that I am considering just going round because it’s easier??!
Also the original vendor will give me a decent trade in value amount - but I don’t know they would be able to find me a nice vintage cushion? Is it better to just sell my current ring and start over??? Thanks for any advice!
 
An alternative would be to put it on consignment and also look for a stone from Jewels By Grace.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have bought and sold with Grace over the years and have consulted her.... she think it could be a while to sell as round brilliants don’t move as fast for her. I don’t know IF I want round to cushion - I just don’t know where to begin with a price scope spec cushion cut?

Can you order an OMC or antique cushion CZ and see if you like the facet pattern? It's quite different from the mrb if that is what you love.

This is a great idea! Will look into CZ to get an idea
 
If you're looking for a vintage cushion, would Distinctive Gems be an option for newly cut, ideal light return vintage-style cushions? Rhino may also be interested in your MRB since he's got a broader scope of customers than purely vintage-focused.

Is this the previous Good Old Gold’s August Vintage cushion? I have heard of them but no experience. Sounds perfect. Ideal light return, vintage style cushion that has been already sourced for me sounds like a dream. My budget will be about 20k-25k Depending on what I can get for my current E ring.

Yup, ditto foxinsox. Distinctive Gems could work as a one stop shop. I'm sure they take more than if you were to sell it yourself, but it probably makes the process easier.

This is such a great idea!! Thank you!! I am still on the fence about round or cushion so this will help. This will be my only upgrade and I want to get it right!

That is a thing of absolute and marvelous beauty!!! It joined the distinctive gem inventory barely 4 days ago. I noticed it on the morning of sept 4 and IMMEDIATELY sent the link to my friend, right after i came up for air.
