I am in the market for an anniversary ring and have spent lots of hours learning from the experts here on PriceScope...so first of all, thank you for all the time you invested in educating me through your other posts! I am grateful for the collective expertise shared on this forum!

I want to make my $6,000 - $7,000 loose diamond budget stretch as far as it will go. I've narrowed down my interest to a G/H/I 1.5ct round or oval shape, excellent cut, and eye clean clarity. I am fine if it has flouresence as long as it does not give off a milky appearance. From what I've discovered on Pricescope Diamond Search, this seems doable, but may take a little work to find the right stone. I am slightly leaning towards the oval shape, since this shape seems to be generally cheaper per carat right now..all other things being equal.

So with that background in mind...

In my search for the right diamond dealer, I just discovered EnchantedDiamonds.com. I like the fact that they seem to have good prices on GIA & AGS loose diamonds, and also feature 360 degree videos, ASET images, Idealscope, and other helps to make a buying decision.

However, I can find very little about them as a company on here or elsewhere. I did find on Better Business Bureau that they had 1 reported customer dissatisfaction issue that did not sound too good, but it seems to have been resolved to the customer's satisfaction.

Anybody have actual experience with Enchanted Diamonds that they can share?

Thank you ahead of time for your help!

They are new on here and have had a rocky start. But you can buy a diamond there if you find one that is great. You'll need to only look at their diamonds which have pictures and an ASET image~and post them here for opinions. Good ovals are very hard to find and they generally do not have the light performance of a well cut round. But I kind of think you need to decide on what kind of setting you want and then choose the diamond shape that would work best.

Re: Inquiring minds want to know-what is your experience wit

Enchanted is where I found the diamond I purchased and had a great experience. I'm sure I was driving them crazy throughout the entire process as I was constantly in contact with them over the live chat with more questions that I had come up with. I dealt with Josh most of the time and he was really great. When I expressed how pleased I was when my stone arrived I could tell he was genuinely excited with me and was thrilled that I ended up a happy customer. They recommended I go ahead and have an independent appraiser check out the diamond for further peace of mind and the appraiser confirmed that I got a great stone at a very good price.

What I love about enchanted is that they provide images and video for MANY stones and can try to get them for you if they don't yet have them. I think this sets them apart from many of the other vendors who deal in virtual inventory. Their prices are very competitive and they have price matching too. Overall I had a great experience and would absolutely work with them again. Welcome to PS and good luck on your search!

Diamondseeker,

Thank you very much for the insight and the warm welcome! As soon as I see a diamond that has potential & in my price range, I will be sure to post it here, and would greatly appreciate the insight.

Thanks also for the info on ovals. I'm not ready to rule them out quite yet, but that does make me lean a bit towards a round.

Good point on the settings...I am in the process of narrowing down the style. I've been looking at Gabriel & Co's settings and have noticed that most settings have a measurement for the diamond in the specs. Does the mean that if I choose a G&C setting, I need to pick a diamond that matches their specs exactly? e.g. The G&C settings that are currently top on my list state 7.4mm 1.5CT RB stones -- do I need to find a 7.4mm stone exactly?

I also like this oval setting...particularly like the halo style, but it is out of my budget:

Do you know if it creates a problem to purchase the loose diamond from one company and then send it to another company to be set?

Thank you again for all your help! I greatly appreciate your expertise.

Thanks so much for chiming in, Pfunk! Really glad to hear you had a great experience with Enchanted. I agree -- I really appreciate the extra info that they have on so many stones. It is such a big help in making a diamond decision when you can't see it first hand. I noticed that they don't have ASET images on all their diamonds...some, but not all. Do you happen to know if they can provide this on request?

Also, I'm curious, did you end up purchasing your setting from Enchanted? If not, do you mind sharing how you handled that?

Many, many thanks!

I believe it is dependent upon the supplier who owns the stone whether or not they can get an ASET/IS image. You would have to ask on each stone you are interested in.

I purchased my setting at a local family owned jeweler. It is a Gabriel & Co setting and I believe Gabriel can custom make their settings to accomodate whatever stone size you have. I purchased the loose diamond, had it appraised, and then had it set locally after insuring it. Getting it all together would be preferable, but I didn't feel like it was a hastle at all to go the route I went.

Most of the G and Co settings are available in multiple sizes, so they more than likely have a size that would work. Every setting has a size range that will work. For example, a setting made for a 7.4mm stone might accommodate a 7.2-7.6mm stone. You'd need to ask that specifically when you got to that point. If you buy a stone from a vendor like ED, you'd receive the diamond and then go to a local jeweler who carries G and Co. Or you can buy the diamond from an online vendor such as Good Old Gold who sells G and Co. Then they deal with sending the stone to G and Co to have it set. I also like Ritani halo settings, and Whiteflash sells those.

You are very welcome, and good luck to you! Post any stones here for feedback!

Diamondseeker, after much hunting, I finally found something in my price range that looks like it might work. I would be grateful for your (and any others who want to chime in) expert opinion.

Here are the specs for the round brilliant:

Carat Weight: 1.56
Cut: Excellent
Color: J
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 61.30
Table: 57.00
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: TN-M
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Faint
Ratio: 0.00
Measurements: 7.47x7.51x4.59

And I'll attempt to attach the H&A, Idealscope, GIA report, and ASET next.

Thank you again, so very much for your offer to help give advice! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!

Happy Friday to you!

Re: Inquiring minds want to know-what is your experience wit

What is the price on that diamond? $6000 would seem to be a great deal so if that's actually the price Id say go for it.

Thanks for chiming in Nervousgent (great user name, BTW)! I'm curious...what made you land at $6,000 being a fair number? I can't find anything that matches this diamond's criteria that is as low as $6,000. Would love to know if you have seen a GIA J VS2 with an HCA of less than 2 for 6K so I can add that to the consideration set.

Re: Inquiring minds want to know-what is your experience wit

I'm guessing he was going off the budget you listed to start the thread. You had said you were looking to spend $6,000-$7,000, so I think that is where he came up with $6,000.

Re: Inquiring minds want to know-what is your experience wit

No I was saying it sounded a bit too good to be true haha. I misread the budget at 6k and not 6-7k. I would say $7500 would be my estimated price.

Edit: what pfunk said lol

Gotcha! Thanks for clarifying. I thought I had missed a great deal in all my diamond "mining" : )

Re: Inquiring minds want to know-what is your experience wit

BTW, pfunk...

You had metioned that you selected a Gabriel & co setting. Are you still happy with it now that you've had it a little while?

I was able to find my diamond that I love in that price range and it is a 1.51 Ct J SI1. Just contact Luann at Id Jewelry and tell her what you are looking for and she will make it happen!

Haven't had it that long but am definitely happy with it. Wouldn't hesitate to go with a gabriel setting again.

Good to know! Did you do any customization to your ring? I am interested in upgrading to platinum, and possibly the melee depending on cost...would be interested in your experience if you customized.

Regarding the ASET results for this diamond (currently on hold)...Should I be concerned about the green area/edge area at the 1 to 2:00 o'clock edge position on the ASET? Any other concerns I should consider?

Re: Inquiring minds want to know-what is your experience wit

I just received some additional ASET & Idealscope images from the vendor for this diamond. Is this a good value for $7,000 or should I keep looking? Also, should I be concerned about this being a "fisheye diamond" with the lighter color showing up under the table? I so appreciate any and all help!

Re: Inquiring minds want to know-what is your experience wit

Don't think you'd have to worry about a fish eye diamond with those proportions. You'd usually see that with a steep pavilion angle, very large table and thick girdle. I think you're safe as far as not having a fish eye diamond, but I am admittedly terrible at analyzing ideal/asetscope images so I can't comment on that.

I appreciate the advice!

Anyone else have thoughts on the ASET/Idealscope/diamond specs...is this a "keeper" or should I continue to look?

Technical correction - a fisheye results from a shallow pavilion and or large table and you can see the girdle from a face up view.
A very deep pavilion diamond shows a 'nail head' effect which redirects light falling on the face up table region right back in the same dierction (like a bow tie effect in a marquise / pearshape). Because you (or a camera) is taking up that space (i.e. there aint no lights there) the table region appears dark.

Could you please also share your expertise on the image results...Should I be concerned about the diamond based on the results of these images? I greatly appreciate your input!
